Need to replace the fuel filters on my MBE 4000 engine. I have heard they can be a real b***h to start after. The filter housing has the fitting for priming but where can you buy the female coupler that attaches to the fitting. Any tips on changing the filters.

There's a screw knob shutoff on the bottom of the housing. Close it before you remove the filter then open it after the new filter is installed. This keeps the system from losing prime.

Is the shutoff on the bottom of the filter on the engine or the one mounted on the frame. Can't seem to see a valve.

The filter on the engine itself. On the bottom is a brown drain hose with a screw knob. Open the knob before removing the filter. Although it appears as just a drain there is an internal check ball that drops and blocks the fuel from returning to the tank. When you install the new filter put the filter in the housing then the cap, don't connect the filter to the cap and install them together, the filter will get damaged when tightening the cap. Be sure and lube the cap o-ring and don't over tighten the cap.

Great info, thanks Bender. Is there any special procedure to changing the filter mounted on the frame.

Unscrew the knob on the engine filter, replace both filters, screw the knob back in, with right foot heavy on the pedal, fire it up, stay heavy on the pedal until all air is purged. That's it!
