Not a pleasant subject at all. Particularly the preparation for it. But it is not nearly as bad as it was even 5 years ago. Folks pay attention to the doc's advice and get yours when it is due.

Happy to say that I came out of one this morning, with no problems. Last one I had a polyp that was benign, but because I had one, they wanted to do another in five years. My doctor was on my butt, my wife was on my butt, and finally the insurance company was on my butt. So I went ahead and had it done.

Glad it is not an every year type test!

I don't know what they give now for the purge, the stuff used just several years ago was actually making some people deathly ill and maybe (probably)caused some deaths.

Glad it went well for you, they told me 7 years and then started hounding me about it in 3. I need to find another physician that this insurance will allow, they won't work with the last 1.

I don't see how anybody that is over 40 can possibly afford NOT to have health insurance. One way or another.

i am chronically without health insurance...... i'd prefer to have it, of course, but i get much, much better care. For one i get quite a bit more time with the Doc, since she or he doesn't have to do the insurance stuff. They listen, take history and give suggestions. Instead of complaint-symptom- perscription and go in 3 minutes. And cost is lower. Last weeks blood test $195, 2 years ago on Ins. almost $700. Same tests, blood count, colesterol, psa... all of it. $195, last years was about that too. Got a MRI last year, $1700 after the discount for self pay, nearly 4K with ins, and sizeable chunk would be co pay. As i said i'd prefer to have Ins, in case i get a broken leg but overall having Ins means less quality of care

I just had a complete (from both ends) colonoscopy done a few months ago. It was not that bad. They give you about 15 senna pills to take first. Then a few hours later, a few glasses of a liquid mixed with orange gatorade to get it down easier. Then a few hours later, more gatorade stuff. Then you will hit the toilet about 4 or 5 times. Then its over. They didnt schedule my test until later the next morning, so I was pretty hungry by then. When they take you to the room where they do the test, they put you on a small table naked with several plasma screens above you. The doctor sprays some really nasty stuff in your mouth and tells you to swallow (not sure, but maybe anestetic for the camera?). Then he asks you if you are ready to take a nap, then he injects something into your IV and you are out. I woke up about 2 hours later, nothing was sore or felt funny inside, almost like nothing happened. This is nothing to be scared of, as it was totally painless. Worst part was drinking the crap mixed in the Gatorade. I wont be eating any orange jello for awhile LOL

Since I no ploitical reason not to join the USMC when I was 17 years old the VA paid for my colonoscopy . (Clean with no polyps 2 weeks ago ) . The VA in this area is so backed up they are paying for many procedures to be done by private facilities.
