Hey your just the guy I need to talk to. Is it worth it to do such a conversion? What kinda mileage improvement did you see and did you keep the twin turbos? I have a friend who's done this with an '08 DPF model but he went with the single turbo and only got 4tenths. That's OK but kinda stretches out your ROI
Accert 550 egt's soaring

Need to change pistons and liners also as the acret is a lower compresion motor than a 6 nz i belive. Not posative though.
-
actullay its higher. 18:1 i believe. you dont HAVE to change pistons to convert, unless goin completely to 6nz or just going to overhaul it anyway. superhauler is the man that can tell ya for sure.
-
Thanks for your interest guys, I'll find out for sure tomorrow and post everything. My main goal isn't to change everything to a 6nz only to eliminate the VVA's which along with the programming CAT had to implement to eliminate NOX gases is heating the intake charge way too much. Don't know if this is the "silver bullet" to cure all or not but if it at least it doesn't stutter and shake when the temps are below 50 degrees from the actuators not exhausting oil pressure and I can gain some mileage then it should be worth it.
-
i wouldnt change the pistons unless they are giving you alot of blowby. the acert pistons are a higher compresion than a 6nz. i had to take the head off so i went ahead and changed the pistons. it runs as good as when it was an acert and you dont get that annoying mist coming from the blowby tube. a whole lot of less parts to go bad also. mileage about 3 to 4 tenth per mile improvment.

Thanks Superhauler, it does have alot of blowby but it always has so I'm gonna wait till it needs inframed before I do the cylinder packs

Mine had that annoying stumble on cool mornings. And it had nothing to do with the IVAs.
It was a blown headgasket. -
is it blowby or oil mist from the vva's?
-
That's an interesting thought. Mine can stumble and run rough in the cold weather also. Half the winter infact. Are you saying the VVA's can cause this ? Not just when cold in the morning, but all the time during cold weather ?
I have noticed the hotter I can get things in the winter the better, but wasn't sure what specifically the temperature was affecting ? -
yep! If you dont warm it up to operating temp, it's probably why.
