I unload furniture all day. No Dolly. Push and pull and carry! That's my exercise.

Food? Whatever the hell I want.

I'm not John Cena by any means, but I'm not John Candy either. I'm pleasantly average for being 6'4/245. :D

Pushups, crunches, go for walks (even use a weight pack?), etc. Stay away from soda and sugar and you'll be fine.

I see some really big (wide) mofo's out on the road, waddling back and forth from their truck to the buffet. Baffles me how someone that's 5'8/350lbs can pass a physical or fit in the seat.

I leave the thread for a day and it's taken over my Marines! Lol, nah great input everyone. I read Helping Hims post and my mouth started watering! I wish my wife cooked like that, haha. I'm certainly going to work push ups and sit ups, I have a pull up bar you can use for sit ups and push ups as well, I'm taking that with me. I'll look into adjustable dumb bells too. I wish I could run like I used to, but my knee is messed up. I'll try jogging! Haha. When do you usually find to time for a workout? During your 10 hour break or do you work it into your tire checks throughout the day?

What do you expect to happen when you leave a beachhead unprotected?
    :biggrin_25522:

Who better to ask about staying in shape? :D

You have to make time, during your 10 if you're running a constant 11 driving might be pushing it. Heck just walking around should help. If these truck stops get more exercise rooms in that helps. Nothing like having a treadmill to use regardless the weather....and then slip into the shower afterwards. Flatbed tends to get you a little more workout, so that helps. If you're looking for something other than door-slamming to do. :D

As for your knees, you need to concentrate on just walking, or speed walking for a more aerobic option. Making sure the knee is sound before you start is a good idea. Tell your doctor what you want to do and get his opinion on the knee condition first. I know, we hurt from sitting in the trucks as much as we do, but movement frees up that joint. Remember we weren't designed to be sitting, and now a new report says less sitting is better for longevity (doh.. like we didn't already know that.). I know I put on a few pounds I have to get off now after two injuries that made it really painful to walk. On the treadmill 2 days and already they feel better, less sore and "locked up".

Remember, you only need a good workout of 30 minutes a day, 3 days a week to keep in healthier shape. So after you exercise you still have 9.5 hours for your beauty sleep. :D

    Good Luck.

Recommend strongly you get the book (kindle or hardcopy) "Eat to Live" by Dr. Fuhrman. It'll change your mind about the protein and other diets.

I'm getting ready to start School to get my CDL and I've been concerned about his as well. I'm 45 and I just had gastric bypass surgery a little over three months ago. I started out at 298lbs at 5'7" and now I'm 232.lbs and still 5'7". Of course I can't eat very much but I'm concerned with eating healthy on the road. I know what to eat but I'm concerned about my ability to withstand the temptation of bad things.

It's not the meals that worry me but the desire to snack while driving. I come from a sales background so I'm use to being on the road to some extent. I use to get a big bag of funions, peanut M&Ms and Diet Mt. Dew. OH yea...sunflower seeds. Can't have any of that now. I do have alternatives but they're not as yummy!

For exercise I will be walking a lot. Can't run because I don't have any cartilage in one knee. I would like to also do some strength training while on the road and I guess the adjustable dumbbells as mentioned before will be my best bet.

I eat whatever I want. The key is variety.

My workout usually consists of going from the bunk to the driver's seat. Occasionally I walk from my truck to a customer. When I park at a truck stop I'll walk from the truck to the store.

I may need to change my routine. Last time I was home the wife said I lost too much weight.

I am concerned about that happening with my husband, vinsanity. In one of the above entries, I mentioned all of the stuff I made and packed for him. :love2: I figure it's not what you eat, but how much. But it was all for naught, unless you count it as "lesson learned". All of his food went bad because he didn't fill up on ice at the OC when he was there.:biggrin_2556: So I went out and got him a thermostatic cooler. Fancy name for a small fridge. He was basically living on fruit cups and snack mix, since he ate the ham earlier in the week. I am against lunchmeat and I know a ton of you drivers out there eat it, but...
So I will go to the store today and get him some canned goods (another dislike because of all the preservatives and sodium) so he will have some "back up" food. I'll make him his favorite biscuits and sausage gravy over fried potatoes over the weekend so he won't feel too bad about his first week out! I know, I know-I'm making you salivate again. :biggrin_2553: Maybe I will make up some videos on how to cook this stuff I send with him. It's not that hard or expensive. A small investment of a few hours will yield a week's (or more) worth of food. Just make sure you get a fridge to keep it all in...:smt023
