Since he is a "RECENT GRAD", his previous DL record (pre CDL) is not subject to DAC, and even negative DAC records drop off after 7 years.
Police DO NOT have access to old DL records that have dropped off due to time, but only to previous arrest records. An employer asking if I had a (alcohol related ticket) doesn't worry me. It is; afterall the Insurance Companies that decide who works. And I KNOW what information they have access to. Additionally; if a Company asks me if I had ever been convicted of DUI, DWI or OUIL, I tell them NO, because those records no longer appear on my Master Drivers Record. And very FEW companies will do a complete Background History.

NoRest,If you don't mind post what happens or what you end up doing,
Im curious if it would come up on a background check? Does anyone know how far back they go when they run them{usually}? -
As long as its 10 years old or older you should be alright, as far as it being on his DAC, I doubt it since he is a new student. and even if it is, there are services to remove such stuff from your DAC.
Good luck on your job search and hope you have learned from this.

Before my boyfriend started school he had two DUI's, one 13 years old and one 17 years old. The driving school told up up front that it would be difficult, but not impossible to find a company. Both DUI's showed up on the DMV record. Before he applied for the CDL, he was able to get one expunged, therefore opening many more doors. I don't remember which companies the school was trying to steer us towards with two DUI's.
Don't give up. Yes, two DUI's is bad, but not impossible since they are over 10 years old. -

Not just DUI's but Reckless Driving hurts as well. I got one about 13 years ago. I lost control of my car going up a hill in the rain and was fishtailing and I had to get out of the way of oncoming traffic. In doing so I steered right into a parked car and totaled it.
There were no injuries and my car had a small dent on the bumper (74' Camaro). They charged me with reckless driving, which i thought was a bit harsh as I wasn't speeding, I just lost control. I lost in court and it haunts me to this day.
I was turned down from a major carrier because of this (one of the more decent ones but still not a favorite of many). Of course the fact that I haven't worked in a while and had a couple other accidents on my mvr, probably doesn't help either but that one seemed to seal the deal.
It has been well over five years since I had an accident (one on my report wasn't even my fault but of course the report doesn't acknowledge the fact) and my 3 year mvr is squaky clean.
Insurance companies must be really tightening the neuce these days. I wonder if I'll ever get a decent job and if I should've ever even gotten a cdl. If I'm reduced to Swift, I'd rather flip burgers lol. BTW my school only asked about DUI's and my 3 year mvr. Had they asked for more info, perhaps they would've suggested some other line of work.
Just so you know I have no felonies either. -
