I left in 2007, I'm curious. Do they still equip May trucks with back-up alarms? I have real fond memories of hearing those things late at night as a May driver is taking 30 minutes to back up when I'm trying to sleep.

Yes, May still has the "lovely" back up alarms on their trucks. I try very hard to get parked ASAP safely when parking at night to minimize the effect of the alarm on others.

I would rather see a guy take 30 min to back in to a spot, then back by touch an crunch.

i think jct has them as well

if those alarms were turned off, there would be no hurry to get backed in. Some of those alarms are defening to the driver, as well to everyone else. how could they hear a horn blowing or someone trying to warn them of the big crunch thats coming.

Our new Macks at my company all came with back up alarms which were quickly disconnected as we do shift work and some of us roll back into the yard after midnight. While we are in a rural location, there are still a handful of houses near our yard, and I'm sure the residents wouldn't appreciate a loud "beep beep beep" going off at 1:30AM while they are trying to sleep.

Our rentals that Penske gives us when our regular trucks (also Penske trucks that do not have alarms) are broken or in the shop have them. And yes, some of them are really loud, as in hearing a horn from a surrounding truck would be difficult to hear. It is also amplified even more when backing out of covered area like the "tank farm" in my signature picture.

The back up alarms don't bother me nearly as much as a refer set to -10 F that backs in next to me during a summer in SoCal and runs all night. Maybe I've just gotten acclimated to hearing the backup alarm working for May.
