We heard the same thing. That's only the second time I've heard that though so who knows.
I know a couple guys live in TX. You'll have to give them a call to see if they'll hire where you live specifically. I know they have more freight moving through there than in the past.

Never understand why drivers are so down on per-diem. Pride does not charge anything for per-diem but it's true you cannot opt out of it. Why would you want to?.....It's less taxes and more take home pay no matter how you look at it. The argument I hear a lot is " I can't get a loan because my income statement does not show what they are paying me in per-diem". Pride will give you a statement any time you want to take to a bank, mortgage or finance company.

How would you like if I use YOUR tax deduction for my company and pay you less ?
-
Apparently you do not fully understand per diem. The Company (at least the company I drive for, Pride) does not use my tax deduction in any way. Yes there is a benefit to them because they pay less payroll tax but it has absolutely nothing to do with how much tax I pay. In fact being paid per diem has nothing to do with the amount of taxes I pay year-to-year except Social Security taxes which are LESS with per diem because I show less taxable income while still making the same amount per mile. Please explain how the company is using YOUR tax deduction and especially please spin for me how they are paying you less.
Pride does hire out of Dallas if you live within' 50 miles.Last edited by a moderator: Jul 12, 2012

Steve, I fully understand the per diem and know a company person when I see one. Using the per diem to pay a driver, is the biggest ripoff in the trucking industry next to the lease deal scams. You can try to feed me any bull you want about the per diem and it's falling on deaf ear with me. Have a nice day.........CondoCruiser Thanks this.

How about 401K match, social security, unemployment benefits, disability insurance payout, and even workers comp payout? Being that you can claim all the per diem come tax time it is definitely not worth the short satisfying extra $40 a week. I'm drawing on long term disability insurance now. Different company, but because of per diem taken out of my paycheck my monthly benefit is reduced by $145 a month or $1740 a year. And the company was claiming almost $100 a day and not putting it on my W-2. Not a thing I could do about it.
It is nothing but a win for a company where they pay less matches on the above. That's why it spread like the plague across trucking companies. They see $$$$$. Just like lease/purchases.
I see a company with lease/purchase and forced per diem, I see a company boosting profits at a drivers expense.
Back when I was a gov't contract employee we use to get a per diem check completely separate from our normal check. It was $595 every week if I remember correctly. Now that is real per diem. Not some hidden tax dollars. Drivers get the short end of the stick.precisionpower and rookietrucker Thank this. -
I start class on the 23rd according to them I'm only doing 3 days then truck selection then hittin the road hopefully it's true. Anyhow hope to see at least one person from here over there!

Where is the OP? Duck, you should be in your own truck by now? Hows it?
I'm about 2.5 weeks out from my own rig. I still suck at backing but it's coming along slowly.
Though I enjoy my trainer I can't wait for this to be over.. especially since I'll be able to take my resets at home.
We've been here at Veg-Land for several hours... the lumper has spent the last hour looking for a missing pallet in the warehouse.
One which he already loaded.. then miscounted the pallet slips.
Enroute to Hesperia, Ca... then Kroger SLC in the am.
