    Hi all,

I am in a bit of a sticky situation, and need advice. I have been a truck driver for 10+ years, but have recently had to take 1.5 years off unfortunately. I let my license expire because I did not need it, and now realize that I have made a mistake.
In the meantime I moved to a new state, in which to get my CDL back they are making me take all of the written and drive tests over, both non commercial and commercial.
Because I have not obtained another license in any state, I have the option of paying out the ### to fly back to Oklahoma, and just paying a simple renewal fee (they will renew up to 2 years after expiration), submitting a new med cert, and then coming back here (Oregon) and just redoing the written without losing everything.
    What would you do?

What would be the cost to go back to Oklahoma? If you start fresh it might cost just as much. Weigh out hassle vs. cost.

Fly back to OK. Easier, even if a bit pricey. I live in Ca. with an Az. CDL, because I don't want to mess with Ca. DMV to switch.

be carefull. there is no law yet, but the DOT is "advising" all trucking companies have their drivers licensed in there state of residence. just moved up here to va from fl with my ca license and nobody wud hire me. since I'm a full time rv'r and have no fixed residence I didn't think it would be a problem. I was wrong! VA dmv wud not give me a license with only a po box address. so I had to rent a spot at an rv park to get a fixed address document, even though I paid va income taxes the previous year when I worked for stink'n Great Wide.

Get a PO box at a UPS store. The actual address is a street address, not a PO box. That should cover you.

The proof of residency is not the dot but homeland security requirement for all drivers license. And it can not be a business adress, as in a private mailbox, or mail forwarding service.
