How about an example?

 

Just remember the key term: "Driver".....You are responsible for your truck at all times...If some non-driver/dispatcher tells you to do something that would be unsafe....DONT DO IT....Use the chain of command, and if the chain of command doesent work....Quit. It would be a better move than, loss of your cdl, damage to property or God forbid, loss of life and a long term stay in jail. Safety is the drivers responssibility and it is your choice to violate that trust. The family in the mini-van next to you hopes you make the rite choice. Please keep in mind, this is a soap-box rant and in no way is directed to idk trucker.

 

Got so tired of hearing the push for safety....


I said the heck with it and bought my own truck. Still have a lot of the "safety handouts" and try to incorporate what makes sense vs the ludicrous.

 

I agree that examples are needed. Hazards are inherent to this business. It's how you identify and resolve them is where the rubber meets the road.

 

Dispatchers sit in the office on their little computers and AC. 99.9% have never driven a truck. It is your license, protect it. You wreck something they are going to write you up or fire you anyway. You are the captain of the ship and the responsibility falls on you when something goes good or bad. Use your proper judgement as a driver and let no one force you into unsafe situations. Did that when I was a new P&D driver, but I learned fast. The company will always take the side of management over a driver.

Just hold that wheel and drive is their mentality.

 

Wisdom has come upon you.
They preach it, you have to recognize it, and if need be, avoid it or refuse to do it.
It is your responsibility, learn that and act accordingly.

 

So.............you had a preventable accident and don't think things should have went down as they did?

 

I would like to hear an example as well. For the life of me I can't think of how a company would be able to put me in an unsafe situation, but then again I don't get sent on dirt roads or to construction sites or anything like that.
