Yes anything over 10k miles a month gets charges as excessive mileage. I run as a trainer and run about 4500/wk. My excessive comes to about $65/wk. I did have $100/wk for a month once, but had run full team 6000+/wk the month before.
It is worth it though if you look at the truck payment $619/wk divided by 2300 miles per week it comes to about 23cpm. The excessive milage go from 5cpm (11,000-11,999mi/mo to 9cpm at more than 15k)

yes it that makes since. is it worth doing the lease or are they just making it sound good? i have a family to suport and cant go in the hole trying to make a good living . the profection i was in befor is not so good any more .

It kinda depends on what you want, and where you live. If you live near 2 or more interstates you can probably get some decent thru home stops, but if not you will need to get a load to home, which will take time and effort to coordinate and unless you have a good DM may not happen. The other option is to not see your family much, and make a good paycheck.
What I do is run 6wks and then take a week off. As I am a trainer I make a lot and budget to pay that $900+/wk fixed cost every 6 weeks or so. If you plan on going home every week or two I would not recomend the lease.
if you run it as a business you can make more money than a company driver, but if you just drive you are likely to have a few negitive checks.
As a company driver I made $500-700/wk there were a few higher and some lower, but that was the norm.
As an owner op I have made anywhere from -$700 to $3800/wk. Over the last 7mo I have only had 2 negitive checks and they were the result of taking 10 days off.
So basicly if yoh can budget and want to run a business give it a shot. If you are only doing it because you need more money, don't do it. You are likely to spend all you get and when that negitive check or repair bill comes due you will go broke and be on here complaining about how awful Central is.vikingswen Thanks this. -
Also I recomend you save up 2+months livinv expenses (including truck payments) before you lease. What would happen if you get hurt or sick, your bills still need to get paid and you do not have workmans comp as an independent contractor.
Also bone collector says he goes home quite a bit and still makes a good living, hopefully he will chime in on his tricks.
Edit: sorry that was snow on page 92. Not bone collectorLast edited: Jul 20, 2012

What is with all these people who haven't even started class looking for info on leasing? Put the brakes on; you don't know if you'll like it, you don't know how you'll do, and you don't have any idea if you can do what it takes to make it as a l/o.
Work on being a good student, then a good trainee, then a good company driver. After you have your wheels under you, start doing the math, and then make an educated choice.1badz28, vikingswen, flametamer and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'd like to add that even with my previous business experience I didn't even give leasing a second thought until my trainer said that I had the right mentality to make it as a l/o. Even now I'm waiting until my numbers come up significantly to give it any real thought.

Yeah it does make sense thanks for the info.

p4p,
I agree I just wanted the information because I know the trainer and dm are going to push leasing. The more straight information we can get now will help us blow holes in any exaggerated information that we might get from others. I do thank everyone for the information at least we have an idea of what is the straight scoop.
