Strange, 20 shows to be a truck route in PC*Miler. I don't have access to my Rand McNally to confirm this.

But a web search (a long one) resulted in a Oregon document submitted to the Fed, stating that 20 was designated as part of the National Network, but was closed to commercial traffic due to the nature of the road design and the higher than normal rate of fatalities. And forcing an extra 60 miles one way for trucks entering from CA.

Plans are being submitted, that would

    A. Widen and straighten the road where feasible.

    Or
    B. Provide a new route altogether. aka By Pass.

Sounds like your company didn't want to pay the extra miles...or the ticket if you were caught. So they stayed silent, and allowed you to take the heat.

Were you going to the paper mill? If you were, and you had called them for directions they would have given you the proper route.

From what the security guard was telling me, the mill is the one pushing for the improvements to the road.

I just don't get why any law bidding driver would want " the black box" a.k.a EOBRs installed. Unless you get paid by the hour for all your on duty hours. Or you like being gone from the house, or maybe you just like the government in all areas of your life.

Trust me you will rue the day you said "I can't wait till the black boxes are installed." Example: Your 150miles from the house and it will take you three hours to get there but the "black box" says you have 2.5hrs left before your out of hours. Uh-oh, I guess your not gonna being snuggling up next to the wife that night because if you do your in violation.

Do you not have a Motor Carrier's Road Atlas?

Don't depend on Qualcomm directions. Most likely that's why they didn't send you any, so that you couldn't say they told you to go that way.

    Use the tools, Luke,

    Your head and your map.

US 20 in the section off of 223 going westbound is not highlighted, meaning it's not recognized as a designated route for STAA authorized dimensions.

Oh well, that's trucking. If you really want to snuggle up to the wife, get a local job that gets you home every night. Killing someone to snuggle next to wife is not worth it, and by the time you get out in 10-20 someone else will be snuggling next to the wife. :D

Drive legal so the fools (politicians) can stop writing legislation to control the 90% because of the tomfoolery of the 10%.

It is not a violation to snuggle up next to your wife (YOUR wife).

If you only have 2.5 hours left and you drive 3 you are in violation whether you have black boxes, e-logs, etc. Just because you do not get caught, does not mean you are not in violation.

If you are over hours, and get in a wreck 5 minutes from your house, and the lawyers find out you were over hours, you will wish you had driven legal.

The rules are there for a purpose.
