Need last 7 days printed out and signed and be able to print the current day on demand, so you need a printer as far as I know. I use Eclipse to check mine but log on paper. If you could print them out and sign them at the end of the day, but logged on paper during the day, you would be doing essentially what I am except I stay with the handwritten ones.
All logs must be current to last change of duty status, as far as I know time of that isn't important unless you have exceeded your drive time allowance or the 14 or 70 hour rules.

you log book is current to the last change of duty. That can be 15 minutes or it can be 6 hours if you can sit that long in the drivers time. THAT's basic driver knowledge or should be.
And yes, you need to have the previous 7 days printed and at least in loose leave format and you should be able to print the current days log on a moments notice. -
mndriver: Thanks. I was told by a trainer that the book could only be 4 hours old. It is amazing how many drivers ( myself for sure) do not know the rules. But I am brand new, he was experienced! So what do the drivers do that have a Qualcom? I haVe only seen one once and I did not think it had a printer. Do the inspectors just plug into the unit and retrieve the data? Bruce

as a driver on qualcomm, you only really have to mess with it if you go off-duty.
It is plugged into a GPS AND the trucks data link. It will automatically put you into driving or on-duty depending if you are moving or not. Each company can set the speed and distance that it will do that.
So say you shut down for your 10. It automatically moves you from driving (line 3) to "On-duty" (line 4). YOU have to change yourself to "off-duty" (line 1) and when you do go to sleep, "sleeper" (line 2).
Now you wake up the next morning. You can pop into the seat and simply take off if you want. EOBR will automatically recognize that and you will be shown as line 3. You stop for 20 minutes an hour later for your morning constitution, you are shown as line 4. It would have benefited you to put yourself to line 1 immediately when you stopped. Your 14 hour clock is still running, but you are saving your 70 hour clock those 20 minutes.
It took me a couple of weeks before it dawned on me that the 14 hour clock has no effect on the 70 hour clock.
So it's to your benefit that you make your fuel stops/ paperwork/ dock backing as quick as possible to allow yourself to get back onto line 1 or line 2 if your company allows you to log sitting on a dock live-loading in the sleeper (yes, DOT regs allow this.) or shutting down for the day.

Thanks mndriver: What about if your log book needs to be examined by an inspector. Does he just read your data? I assume no paper log is required?

I had a level II and just handed him my controller.
I had to bring up the graph for him, but that's all he wanted to see. -
I really don't know the niche market for Eclipse since most major companies use Qualcom and others, but it may be in the developers of Eclipse best interest to consider making an OS X port. The reason I say this is, OS X Mountain Lion is getting ready to be released this month which will bring ios6 like functioning (iPad iPod etc) to desktop and laptops. And mark my words, Apple is going to slowly keep growing larger and larger.
Microsoft is doing a horrible job keeping up wether anybody likes it or not, and I am not speaking out of fanboyism. Just look at how Apple has exploded in the last few years alone. I am convinced there will be almost as many Mac users as there are Windows users in about 5 years if not sooner. -
XATA is using Android now. We have an Android tablet that communicates to the truck via Bluetooth.

I have been using Eclipse logs since 7/1/2012 and on a Macbook Pro running Parallels.
This is kludgy at best. Yea it works but...really...?? - its lame....And I dont expect them to release an OSX version.
So, here is another option for us "far and few between" Mac users:
I picked up a nice cheap netbook (under $250) that runs XP and I just place the program on it.
This way, I dont need to deal with anything other than a device being used for ONE purpose.
It's also small and light weight and easy to turn on and show at a moment's notice.
Can't use a tablet as they only run Android or OSX. Maybe Eclipse will release an Android version that will run on a tablet...?
I have many things on my macbook that are personal.
Having 2 devices keeps business business and personal personal.
The only thing I would like to see on Eclipse is a way to print out the entire day, before the day is ended but as if it did end.
For example...I shut down at 8pm. Off Duty until the next day at 6am. No more duty changes but I cant print out the log
until the NEXT day. The only way around I have found is moving the laptop clock forward...but maybe there is something I am missing. -
Dose anyone know if DDL has a trial version I could use before i sink $95.00 in to it? I looked around on their website and didn't see anything. Would really like to see how easy it is to use and how it looks on my netbook compared to the other progarms. Thanks in advance for the help.
