Donald, I can't answer too much for owner ops. I do know they run the same freight and most I have talked to run more miles than company guys because they can do more "non logged" miles since they own the trucks for personal use. We company guys can't do that. There are two owners I see quite often and both say they enjoy it and won't go back to the typical otr companies. One makes enough to support himself and a family home (vacation) in Jacaima. He is retiring there in 5 or 6 years. He's only 31. Lol.
I don't know their pay package, whether they pay road use taxes, plates, etc. I can find out, but you will call the same person I will when I call recruiting. Then you can get it from "horse's mouth." -
I knew only one o/o at Link and he was here for awhile. Got his truck through Linkmerica lease purchase program when they had it. He left Link and went to LandStar...

Thank ya'll for geting back to me on the Owner Op at Link America. But what I want to know if any owner op can tell me what thay thank about link. And the pay...

My husband started with Link on 7/09 and eventhought the truck looked like crap, smelled and was caked with dust, he still thought it was a pretty good company. Week one was pretty good with about 2100 miles. Now second week he has been broke down more than running. Now after he told them the clutch was having problems, he can't get the truck in gear to move. So they are towing him to Freightliner. God knows how long he will be there. I don't know how long he can stay with this company. We can't pay bills if he is not running. He has not had barely any miles since Thursday. Ugh!!!

Donald, call that number and ask for Kelly. That is number direct to Link's recruiting department in Ft Worth and not a "contractor" recruiter. Kelly can give you pay info. You guys are way more detailed than us company guys. We get this much per mile where you get that much, plus fuel, plus plates, plus stops, plus detention, plus maintenance, the list goes on. I asked a o/o last night and he said list is 2 pages long. All he told me was he took home just shy of $1800/ week after expenses, but his truck is paid off as of last March. -
Forgot to mention, he has been reporting problems with the clutch since he first got in the truck. Along with the problems with the truck not starting, the oil being filthy and the jakes not working. Oh and no APU. My husband hates wasting gas even with it not being his truck. But it is hot as hell out. This company may not last. We really thought this was going to be a good move. Not thinking so much now.

The company wants you to idle for comfort. If he truly reported those problemd, he would have been sent to a shop. If they will send me to get mine greased and clutch adjusted, they would have sent him for clutch repair. It could be possible that he is also in a loaner or slip seat and truck is slated for turn in and he is to get a new truck in two Weeks. I'm not trying to come across as mean.
Where is he terminal'ed out of? He needs to contact terminal manager and then follow with his executive sponsor and voice his concerns. I had a beat truck, proven myself, got a better truck, and now possibly a new one soon. Who knows. On being broken down, they will pay downtime. To get a good week as you said, then quit on first breakdown without really calling anyone to resolve the issue will only give more Weeks without pay to only go to another trucking company with same problems...
Remember, all trucking companies have the same problems. Difference is how they handle them. I suggest trying to speak to management before jumping ship for then, you at least tried.
I apologize if this came across too direct. I'm just trying to point out that there are options. -
Please don't misunderstand. He is not leaving the company that quick yet. He is calling someone tomorrow. We don't jump ship that quick or he would have left soon as he saw the truck. But I have seen the pretrip messages myself, so he has sent them. And he has already been in the shop once for the truck not starting and was told they are not planning on replacing the starter. They replaced one of the batteries and the truck still has a hard time starting. I just had one picture in mind when he first started and seeing things different now. But because of the good things from this thread we are trying to stick it out. This company keeps him closer to home. And that is what we both wanted. He is headed to Freighliner in GA now. His terminal is in Lakeland. I was just mostly saying I hope we didn't make a bad move. And don't worry my feelings don't get hurt that easy. I prefer complete honesty. My husband is just not one to complain alot. He just wants to drive and keep moving. He has been sitting all day and just got a call saying he will be towed in about an hour. I just hope he is not sitting for days.
