Let me tell you about Navajo.
First, they have you get advances to pay to get the freight unloaded. You pay for all scales out of your pocket and other expenses. If you need a motel, they give you an advance. No big deal right, WRONG! Navajo, does not give you real check stubs, they have gone green. GREEN to them. If you do not print your pay reports, and double check every receipt you will not get paid back. They will not print this stuff for you at the office, and so you end up doing it on home time. Every month, I was arguing for not less then $600 worth of reimbursements that they did not pay me. You have to wait till you go into the office in Denver, and deal with payroll, for this to get fixed.

Secondly, they started new creative financing in Jan. 2010. Where 1/2 of you pay is given to you as an expense. So, if you are earning 30 cents a mile, the first 2 cents is per diam. Okay, everyone is stealing that 2 cents. Then out of the 28 cents that is left, 14 cents is paid as pay, and taxable. the other 14 cents is paid as travel expenses.

Okay, what does that hurt. It hurts YOU. They are only declaring and paying taxes on the 14 cents that is taxable. So, when it is time to get your unemployment, you get 1/2 of what you are intitled to. Also, on your social security earnings, it only reports 1/2. So your retirement will be less. This is NOT something that you can opt out of.

It is a way for them to cheat on the taxes they pay and and cheat you. You have now been warned.

Well, the Navajo part is one thing. But truck drivers that can drive don't need unemployment.

drdave, odd name for a female driver, whatever, welcome to the forum. How long did you drive for Navajo? It's common knowledge that their pay sucks but this is one of the few threads I've come across where they are accused of scumball trucking.

Don't you just love drive by posters, safe to assume what was written is likely false. I am sure she has many user logins/names and posts stuff and logs off.

I used to drive in the 70's. I quit driving and stayed home till 2002. I went with CRST 8 month contract. As a female in the industry, this worked pretty good for me. But if you look at CRST, know they will NEVER get you home on time, they will cheat you out of your home time, and some of their trainers are questionable. There was a sexual harrassment class action suit against them and the company lost.

The ride, the life, the adventure can be fabulous! Take plenty of pictures, and write a journal to share with your kids. Even if you only write about wonderful Wyoming looks when the snow is frozen and sparkles like diamonds in the winter time when the sun hits the frozen meadows. Or how in the spring time. how the construction cones, grow like flowers from sticks, to cones, to barrels all over our nations roadways.
