At Eagle Ford, which is the basis of the discussion here, if you can get in the door standing and have a Class-A Texas CDL there are companies that will hire you, it may be needful to have a lot of time around industrial and so fort the keep yourself safe but with some effort you will be able to find some place that really wants you ~ I am scheduled for my driving skills test the 8th of August in Waxahachie and expect to find work around Keneday / Karnes, I have much information compiled so pm me if you want it ( I am 61 )

Do 5 more posts about anything.
Ask more questions.
I'm watching this thread closely, you might have a question for the members that may answer a question that I haven't thought of.
Age is just a number.
I know people in their 70's that can work circles around many 20 somethings. -
thanks. i can say that I am in great physical shape. No medical problems. Thanks for the reply.

You're welcome.
I'm 55 myself, just got my CDL with X endorsement and looking at tanks for a career.
Two of my instructors at the CDL school had tank experience and said tanks were the best driving jobs.
They said it was the best money and made you really focus on being a better driver. -
Hate to hear that pokerperv, everything was running so smooth for you! We had our quarterly safety meeting last week. On our account most accidents on the tanker occur from climbing the ladder. We even had some drivers permanently remove their face shields from their hardhats because the wind was catching them and making the driver unstable while walking along the top of the tanker.
Hope it all works out for you and you get well soon.pokerperv Thanks this. -
No the questions are mostly account specific- how to fill out paperwork, operate the Qualcom, operating procedures for sites we unload at, etc. In the past these drivers would have received more time with a trainer and these topics would have been covered more thoroughly.

I heard that Sun Coast lost some contracts they had running to wells so what you are saying makes sense. I know a couple of drivers over at Sun Coast told a buddy now may not be a good time to try to apply for a job over there. I even heard that a couple of their drivers were looking at coming over to Schneider. You are right, Sun Coast is definitely sending more trucks to Cuero later in the day. I work the later shifts and the other night I counted 16 Sun Coast trucks there when I pulled out to deliver my load. That is VERY unusual! I'm not sure how this is going to play out but when Schneider sends the new trucks in a few weeks, something will have to give otherwise our drivers will only be able to pull one load a shift.

I would say with a new CDL your chances at 62 are better than someone in their 20's. On our account we have lots of older drivers. I have heard some companies actually prefer older drivers because the "I'm invincible" mentality is gone. I'm not putting down younger drivers as this industry needs all the workers it can get, but I get this question on age a lot and I can tell you on our account 62 would not be unusual.
