Don't forget the safety incentive pay. I'm getting .05 per mile on top of my .25 base on the Dollar General account.

That's for real. U-turns are very dangerous. Stevens is the same way, part of their "Sitting Duck" policy. Immediate termination. I got "written up" for pulling off on the side of the road not being an emergency. Safety is no joke at Werner and is taken very seriously.

I have read some of your posts and you seem to be happy and that is great. I don't want you to take this the wrong way, but that pay is really crappy.

If the DG account is like the Walmart account where I used to work, the base pay was .30 before and instead of giving a safety incentive on top of that, they took part of that pay and made it the safety incentive. I do not see that as an incentive, but more as a threat. They are not saying if you do well we will reward you, they are saying if you do not do well we will punish you. I guess that either way that could be an incentive, but I would rather have one that is added to an already fair pay.

Oh well if you are happy and you make enough for your needs then that is great. I worked for Werner for over 4 years and they did OK by me, but I don't think I would have lasted that long with that pay.

Anyway keep the positive attitude and I am sure in the end you will do OK either with Werner or without.

Well doing a u-turn on certain roads and certain conditions and depending on traffic is questionable that's for sure. But I've done u-turns and pulled over on side of the road where 100 other trucks are too.I understand being a rookie, the co. doesnt want any issues with their drivers at all but that seems a little crazy....Now I worked at a very safety driven co. when I started and there's some serious issues that they go over with all drivers and there wasnt any issues with u-turns. Now I can say that you have to use your head and understand how big and long ur truck is but what did they expect you to do? Back up instead? I'm sure they have reasons why too....What is the "sitting Duck" policy about?:biggrin_25511:

Yeah, don't. You can make more even as a new driver, you just have to look HARD.

I agree you should take a long hard look around and find a good company but, you won't have to look to hard to find a company better then Werner.

Back to the miles, if I'm out there for 3 weeks at a shot I want 3000 miles week. Anything short of that is a wast of my time.

Well, being an owner/op now with Werner is working out pretty well. Just finishing up a 1300 mile trip to the El Paso area where I unloaded the whole trailer to a new store that will open later this week. 39 roll-tainers with over 100 totes and associated toppers in 2 hours and 45 minutes. Loaded some bent shelving and 3 4x4 wire bins with cardboard and back on the road. We'll see where the next load takes me. I am pleased with everything and have a lot more independence as an O/O.
