Well, called and talked to them today. Because I am unable to return to full time employment until the end of August because of my shoulder surgery, they want me to call back AFTER I have a release to go back to full duty. So, they want me to wait until September 1st to reapply, then wait up to 4 weeks before going to training. They won't do ANY pre-hire paperwork UNTIL I have the release from my doctor. All the other companies I talked to all said they'll do pre-hires NOW and if I can get a note from my doctor releasing me on a certain date in the near future, then they'll set a date within a week after my release to be shipped to training. I don't want to wait until a month after my workers comp pay is over to head out to training. I have a headache after talking to her now....

Why are they having you wait 4 weeks after you get the release? That seems silly. I turned my paper work in Monday and was asked if I wanted a bus ticket that Sat or the next week. I know they can move quicker than that. Not to tell you to recruter hop, but talk to Omar, he is good at pushing files through.

I'll give Omar a call tomorrow. What's his last name in case I need to know?

Plus, I was kinda discouraged so I filled out Prime's online app to see what they would say. Got a call within two hours of submitting, said they could get me on a bus the day my restrictions are up. The only reason I'll be on doctors restriction for the next month is to regain the strength I lost from not using it for 8 weeks. Sucks, wish I could go next week. I see my ortho next Thursday so maybe I can convince him of it lol.

Well lets hope. I have heard good and nad things about primes training. I looked at them myself but was put off by the length of the training. I can tell you Prime rookies are some of the better ones on the road I have seen. I have heard bad things about their owner opp depart ment from my trainer. He was with central, went to prime and came back after, according to jim, "prime bankrupted him" I do have some good friends, a husband and wife team, who make a great living and have a lot of flexability on loads and time off.
So there are my unhelpful words.

I'm still going to wait until I get the date of release from my doctor before I decide to go with Prime. I'd rather go through Central. My friend's dad drives for them and he loves it. But I have heard good things for company drivers for Prime, so at least at this point I may have a backup. Should know more next Friday, but still crossing my fingers for Central.

Ooh, I'm jealous. :biggrin_25511:I've been lusting over that for a LONG time now, but mostly my M/C's weren't up to the job. Had a Gold Wing that woulda worked, but had no vacation time when I had money, and visa versa. Now have newer but way more broken (dead) GW that was given me I have to fix first. Maybe in a couple years. Of course, I still gotta get my tatoo that I said I'd get about 30 years ago. :biggrin_25524: At least I'm going to be back on the road after 17 years off.:yes2557:

    G'luck. :biggrin_25519:

Holy crapolie! I have been doing nothing for the last few days except read the CDL manual over and over and over and then took not only the online CDL course on Trucking Truth, but also three others online and wow, a lot of information to soak up. I can see how this is a big old pain in the a@@ at school. But since I had time, I already did it. I talked to the recruiter at Central yesterday and she said even if I get my Class A CDL on my own, they will still hire me but I don't have to do all the training that everyone else does so I won't be paying for my schooling. They'll put me in a week later in school to be with the guys that just got their CDLs. So, tomorrow morning, I'm going over to the DMV, taking the tests and getting a driving permit. Then I have a friend that has a tractor and trailer that they use on their farm that they're going to let my brother in law and me drive it to train me for the test and then I'll go take my driving test next week. I'm really excited about all of this now. Hopefully next Friday I will have taken my road tests, passed and be carrying my Class A CDL around in my wallet. I'm going to jump in next week and take the tests for all the endorsements after a bit more studying. Hell, I have five more weeks until the estimated date my ortho will release me from his "care". Hell, I do more physical therapy exercises at home in one day then I do at PT in the gym all week. But, I can start strengthening after the 1st and as soon as I am able to lift the requirements of a DOT physical, my ortho will have me come back in and he will do a DOT physical for me (thanks workmans comp :) ) and if he feels I am at par or better, he will release me the end of that week. Sorry I'm babbling, too much coffee at 10 PM!! :biggrin_2551:
