somewhere on this sight there was a discussion about mufflers. but i can't seem to find that thread.

i'm basically looking for recommendations for a replacement muffler on my 05 w9. nothing fancy. just cheap and close to stock.

i'm hopefully getting a black smoke problem resolved with a rebuilt turbo. and i'm pretty sure the muffler on it now is somewhat metled and probably full of soot by now. yes, the motor had a few explosions so that probably melted the baffles somewhat.

someone on here posted a stock for around $150. buyt kenworth quoted me $350. and napa doesn't have a listing for a replacement. least around here they don't.

suggestions please. i wouldn't mind a pp or something but i don't want the noise either. i like to sleep. and i'm sure the towns do to at night. where i like to use my jakes a lot.

i'm thinking of a boost gauge also. if anyone has suggestions.

Donaldson is popular, but I recall a Canadian built muffler that was high quality and much cheaper, can't recall the brand name.

A lot of people are buying the Walker Magnaflow muffler. It is a straight through design and runs about $150 each.

    what about the noise though?

i'd like a high flow but i don't want to sacrifice quiet for the most part.

like i said. i want to sleep. and i have very good jakes. which means the towns want to sleep also.

Sounds like the standard Donaldson or Walker would be for you.

Shuttleworth is the Canadian muffler that was mentioned. They were $70 and beat the quality of donaldson.

THANKS GUYS and or gals if the case may be. i sent emails to all 3 companies. hope to have something ordered and back before the turbo gets done. be nice to start putting money in the bank instead of into the atmosphere. when the truck rolls again.
