I found this company near home that does dedicated routes from Chattanooga, TN to Laredo, TX (home every single weekend) but the only thing that creeps me out about this company is that they will assign you a truck immediately without a trainer. I am a CDL school graduate with no otr exp. so this is a little nerve wrecking. I can kinda understand b/c the company only has a five truck fleet. What do you think about this?

You need to learn otr before you just head out on your own.

It doesn't sound like a viable business model. Plus there are a lot of small companies that fail and the drivers go unpaid. Sad thing is that it's not too uncommon so you have to watch out.

Wow, I at least had 10 days and looking back feel it should have been more. But, it's doable, go slow, slow, slow. man theres so much to learn, Im kinda scared for ya. The fact of it being dedicated will help as you wont have to find new routes all the time in the beginning. Remember though theres no redos on mistakes, accidents, ect. Talk to the boss in depth about any misgivings and see at least if they can set you up to run with another the first few times. At least some radio communication would be a help with another driver to run with.

I have never had a trainer in my life ! I don't know why. Everyone thinks you need one is beyond me .

I have been driving for 32years and I can tell you that you never forget a lesson you learn on your own !

If you are afraid that you can't do it on your own then you might be better off to go to a trainer company.

If you know that you are going to be a truck driver then jump on it and start the best ride of your life !!

There is nothing out here that you need to be taught by a guy that most likely hasn't been a driver a year more than you have .

If the company does fail yhe way I look at it is I was looking for a job when I found this one so I can just find another one !

Yes you MIGHT not get paid but them you MIGHT just find the company for you !

So I say just go for it if you think you can hack it by jumping in the deep end of the pool if not then go to the kiddy pool and wade around with the rest of the little ones !

Good post Marmonman. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I'd probably give it a shot if I were in the O/P's shoes. If it's legit, it sounds like a nice run. As for not having trainers, Watkins/Shepard operates this way and it doesn't seem to affect their business negatively.
