With all that being said, when are you booking your next load? And how do you space them out so you don't have a service failure for showing up late for an appointment. I'm always scared to death to book my next load until I have safely cleared the receiver. This is an area I need improvement on. I wouldn't mind doing the shorter stuff once I gain that confidence.

Personally, I'm comfortable booking the next load once the receiver's forklift hits the inside of my trailer.

If I had to choose between running long or short then I would choose short but then I would be stuck in that range and would welcome a nice trip once in a while for a change of pace.

I agree. I do steady work to the Montreal area, can make a decent living out of it. But every now and then a load further ahead is nice, even though it pays less...

But I'm always happy being back in my own work. And of course i wouldn't do it when the rates would be too bad to drive for, let that be clear...

I book my next load a few days in advance. I tend to deal with the same few brokers each week, and am pretty good about notifying them if there's an issue. I also tend not to book loads too tight together, except for my load home is usually just a few hours after the previous delivery. But, there's an open window to make the pick up and the broker can easily cover it/rework it if there's a problem with the equipment. In fact, I had my reefer die on me when making my last delivery, and we just canceled it. Now, if you're constantly dealing with new brokers and customers, you probably want to give some more leeway. Deliver one day, pick up the next will work best. Most any repair you need can probably be done by then even if you book in advance.

Your right about wear and tear. So if everyone stopped hauling cheap freight. We could make a living like before Carter and be home every weekend. Most people don't count all cost when bidding a load or simply put are too stupid. Like he said they won't last ling.
