Hi LSAgent! My husband is in day 1 of his orientation with Landstar and we are in Dublin ga...he has 8 yrs of driving experience flat bed & van...he has decided to start pulling vans initially since we don't have the funds to purchase everything for the flat beds at this time... But I have read a few of your posts & see that u r an agent out of TN & since we are close to you I was wondering maybe u could help us gett with you to help get him started with some great paying freight in this area. He wants to start Wed after his orientation is complete. Plz PM me with any additional information that we could use. Thanks a lot!

was told when I went thru AA&E class that the average truck year here at Landstar is 2002. Wonder how this will play out for Landstar as far as California goes after 2014.

Most likely they'll just broker the CA freight out more than they do now. I think anyone that has a DPF engine should see CA rates increase pretty decently come 2014. I haven't been there since 2001, but when ya'll hear those shippers and receivers complaining about price when it happens, make no apologies and make sure you tell them it is 100% on CARB.

    milskired and fireba11 Thank this.

Hello all, I am in the process of signing on to LS. I was wondering about something I heard recently, is it true that LS does not pay any detention?

Depends on the agent, circumstances, customer, etc. Most loads get detention paid on them if it's called for. Some agents are gutless and won't stand up for you... some will.

Well it has been an eventful 6 weeks since I was supposed to start in late june and had the truck I was buying sold out from under me the day before I was set to ship out and pick it up in KC but things will happen for a reason I spose and it has come out better sorta, found me a sweet T660 in Dallas and its ready to go and will be in the BIG D for orientation on the 20th. So instead of getting a 2007 dirty motor I got a 2009 and with living in Vegas I see that as a plus to reap the higher freight rates after next year. Any pointers right out the chute are welcome, I have a droid smartphone with Verizon, had considered getting a tablet or laptop for the load board and business in general but can I make my way with my phone till I get established? It has email and internet and the whole deal, just input from some of the vets out there, any other advice as far as loads to look at out of the Dallas area that are doing well on the van side. Happy to finally get the bugs worked out and start rollin pretty soon.

You will need internet access and an all in one printer/fax/scanner for the truck if you plan on leasing to Landstar or any carrier that requires that you email, fax or upload your paperwork to them. Truck stops charge from $1-3/per page to send or receive faxes. You also need to make copies of all paperwork before sending them to your carrier. Copies can run $0.25-0.50/page at truck stops. Being able to do everything from your truck is also much more convenient. As soon as you unload you can send in your paperwork from the shipper or anywhere you choose. Otherwise, you may need to find a truck stop that has transflow or a Trip Pak box. As long as you can send and receive from your printer you should be able to use your phone. I have a couple of friends who have some sort of smart phone and they love them. One can actually send and receive faxes direct from the printer by using bluetooth. You can buy an all in one printer for less than $100.

    Vegas Reaper Thanks this.
