Why do so many newbies disappear after they hit the road?

97 out of 100 people that start a Trucking Career are no longer doing it at the 1yr point.

..wow..only 3 out of 100 stick with it.

It's hard work..not as easy as people or TV make it to be and you really got to have a 'drive' inside you to want to do this...

I love it but it's not for everyone...

 

new here to your site guys, been driving in australia for nigh on twenty five years on and off. have my own louiseville and tautliner trailer. It is refreshing to see the same garbage happens on all continents. Our basic wages is still set federally at $15 p/h. To get your heavy vehicle licence here is around six hours in a training environment. They push anyone through who can turn a wheel, irregardless of road knowledge or practical working experience. There have been more and more road accidents over the past five years alone, with untrained international licence holders who will work for minimum wage, making it hard for the rest of us to be taken seriously as the hardest working people on the planet. I am finding it diffcult to understand the referencing and abbreviations you all use. what is ttl?

 

I think they simply implode into a little tiny grain of dust.

Then when their 'abandoned' truck is recovered and cleaned...
Not the best funeral, to be thrown out with the trash.

 

I know I will be disconnected from the internet for long enough to bank enough safety money before spending on the fancy phone plan. I will have much higher priorities than getting online once I solo.

At least 2-3 months solo before I get regular online access again.

 

I just hit my one year mark, and I am still here, and still driving.

 

So there's hope! Lol

 

My first post here was back in....march of 2011? I may disappear for a while. Sometimes you just get busy. I started doing a lot of studying in the business side of trucking as well as logistics. Also as I developed as I driver I moved into the other forums, experienced driver advice, o/o forum, broker, flatbedders. I'm doing a L/P with a flatbed company now and couldn't be more happy. Taking home double what I did as a company driver and I'm home every weekend (so far). Only complaint would be that year bumping docks got me out of shape, flatbedding is whoopin my butt. Hopefully it will get me back in shape and help me lose the 25 lbs I put on last year pulling vans.

 

I think gravdigr is on the mark, I registered in 2008, but barely had time to check my email as it was, during my 4 years out there after that. Not a new driver, but busy keeping busy as a company driver. Getting on the DM if I didn't have a load, fighting with the company(s) to repair their vehicles, quitting and then getting another job...etc...all the time having to keep the bills paid etc.. Got time now, cause I'm between jobs, and trying to help where I can like a true flatbedder.

I think if they did stay, they just needed help getting started and being all excited, they were hyped and needed reassurance....now they're out there working and they don't have time to be exited anymore. They're dog tired.
