Hello, I am on my way to Van Buren, Arkansas for orientation with USA TRUCK. I will be with a trainer for 3+ weeks and would take any and all input about this company. Good, Bad, and Ugly. Thanks a lot. :biggrin_25520:

Mostly it comes down to your FM. some weeks are bad miles some great. I have been here since last December and so far I'm fine. I have had some issues but I just try to communicate and be honest. I have a great FM and I let her know what's going on out here. She in turn helps me out when I need it. Now the corporate people can be unforgiving at times and their investigation skills on incidents suck and are non existent. So if something happens be prepared to just take the blame. Witnesses and your report mean nothing. But I just worked past it and moved on. But then I do have a good FM who seems to help and back me. So far.

Get clarification in orientation on detention pay and time you have to be detained to get it, weekend pay, driver assist pay, breakdown pay, etc... Take lots of notes. Stay away from company per diem. Just take the per diem when you do your taxes at the end of the year. I would only clear $5-$25 a week more if the company does it and I'd still have to calculate the difference at tax time. Plus it's less as and Medicare the company pays on your behalf. So benefit is more for them than you.

Hope you get a good trainer. My phase 1 sucked and she was fired right after I got off her truck. Phase 2 was good. Ask trainer questions and take lots of notes. Practice backing as much as possible. Learn how to drop and hook trailers. Slow neat and careful when filing out log book. Get a spiral rand McNally atlas before you get your own truck. Listen!! Watch!! Learn!! Lots to take in. Notes notes notes!! Did I mention take notes? On the road and in orientation. Don't be scared to ask questions and don't drop it until you understand the answer. On your own is not the time to realize that.

Hope this helps. Ask if you need any more info.

I think you got peanut butter in your eyes. It says he will be WITH a trainer. Oops.

And to the OP, good luck. I'll keep my USA opinion to myself this time because its all bad and ugly.

And I'm trying to be less sarcastic these days. Gee, first sentence doesn't show that does it? Practice, practice, practice.

Phase 1 is the trainer and you are both up front together. They teach you learn lol. Phase 2 is like team driving. Trainer answers questions but you get a little more autonomy.
