This post probably saved me 4 hours at the DMV, avoided some stress and grey hairs, and most importantly saved me some valuble time overall. Thank you, sir. This forum rules.

"You don't have to repeat the tests".
Thanks JabH
Thought when I get there I would need to do it all over again. But when I get there I will have time with SNI so hopefully I will be able to maintain my former residence. We'll see -
thanks that cool to see how Schneider does it

Oh and before you can register vehicle you have to have it inspected and vehicles are registered at county tax offices.

ShootThis,
Yep. in the county and town (which happens to be the county seat) I'm in, it happens both the tax assessor and vehicle registration are in the same office, but in other counties, they cleverly separate them, and you may have to visit two different offices, as you say.
Texas....a whole 'nother country. Yep. In this process, I was afraid I would next hear I would need a visa to move here from one of the other 49 states. In moves between 6 states, I have never run into any DMV/vehicle registration process that was nearly as (apparently) intentionally labrynthine. What a MESS. Love the state, hate the bureaucracy.ShootThis Thanks this. -
When I went through orientation in June with SNI half of the class or more were new drivers fresh out of CDL school. They consider experienced drivers those who hav 6 months verifiable experienceWant2 Thanks this.

Gotta love the Great Republic of Texas.

If you have family at home that still gets your mail for you, you don't need to change your CDL to Texas.

Take this into consideration, if you are a resident of Texas you pay no state taxes. May make sense to move your residency if you can keep from paying the extra taxes.
By the way, on our account here in Victoria they did a check a couple of weeks ago where you had to show physical docs to your shift manager (driver leader). They recorded the info and supposedly sent it on to corporate headquarters. They wanted to see drivers license, DOT physical card, HAZMAT training card from Schneider, and TWIC card. You are supposed to have a TX license on this account, not sure what they did about those who did not have one.
When I got my TX state license the only thing I had to redo was the HAZMAT written test and the fingerprinting. The department where you get your tag for your vehicle will help you move your insurance, just be sure to get the state inspection before you go to the office. Took me about 15 min to get a tag in Victoria and it took about an hour and a half to get my license changed over to TX and that time included the computer administered test on HAZMAT.
