It won't shut your truck down. At least not the mcp200 I have by qualcomm.
Ive driven over my 14 and it just logs a violation.
I don't mind e logs except when I get stuck at a customer, 14 runs out, customer closes and has no overnight parking. You have to carry paper logs with you because the elogs do go crazy sometimes.
There are ways to cheat e logs, so I've heard.

Another thing about this deal is LS is merely loaning the unit for free, but you still have to pay the monthly charge, with the typical LS markup.
DrtyDiesel and volvodriver01 Thank this. -
OK Thanks guys. I knew about electronic logs as a generic name but I couldn't get "electronic log" or anything similar to it out of EOBR.

Thanks again -
You don't need a CDL for GCWR of 26,001 lbs. or less, but you do need a log book as per section 395.8 of the FMCSA guidelines. EOBR's could be required there as well, but you don't have to have a CDL.Any interstate carrier that has a US DOT number is covered by the CSA 2010 and that includes non-CDL holders.

So if Landstar offered you BCO's an extra % on your line hauls or a bonus in accessorials, would you be more willing to get one? This is pure speculation, I'm just curious.

The only reason I haven't gotten one yet, is I still have a mechanical engine and no way to hook it up.
DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
Possibly, but LS isn't willing to give enough to make it worth while. I personally won't go elog until the Feds mandate it, unless it was for a dedicated high paying gig that required it, like I said above. The customer service aspect LS is trying to slide these in under is BS as a large percentage of loads are brokered to outside carriers without EOBR's. If a mandate came down from corporate, I'd most likely fire up my authority again.volvodriver01 and aiwiron Thank this.

I know I will sound like a traitor and anti american trucker but I was opposed to e-logs at first then I ran them for about a year and got used to it and I have to admit, it got me out of more hassles with the fuzz than anything else. Whenever I have been pulled in they just ask to show them the total hours page on the QC and then say thanks. Im on my way in no time flat. you wanna see the new phase of trucking and enforcement be put to the test on you, keep doing paper logs or even better yet, carry a loose leaf hahaha. while you spend 2 hours in the inspection bay Im buzzin right by with e-logs and prepass. If its free the I will hook it up. Jus sayin.....

The only cheat I knew of was you can drive a radius of about 5 miles or 5 minutes when youre out of hours. when you reach the limit and it beeps the warning at you that a violation is gonna pop then you stop and shut off the motor thus resetting your radius, sounds dumb but it has worked for me to scoot around town a little bit or just find a parking spot. if you are on the turnpike in Jersey trying to get to the bordentown TA to shut down and you popped your 11 and 14 already and you are 20 minutes away then you are gonna get dinged, how would I know this you ask???? If you have a certain amount of violations in a period of time then you will get a letter from your carrier or safety guy, if it persists and youre a habitual offender then you may get the adios because in an audit the carriers CSA score will be affected which affects their insurance premiums and levels of red lights they start getting at the POE's, you will be that red light guy.
