I have a booster and it works to a point, without it I don't get any channels. I was thinking of an antenna that would work with the booster for even better reception and more channels. I just hate when a show freezes on me or goes blank completely.

they have directv. they just want the atannae for back up in case the satellite should not work. like when the dish gets covered with snow.
i can't seem to convince them to put the dish on a pole in the ground. they already have holes in teh roof for the dish mount and don't want to do anymore damage or whatever. so they leave the dish on the roof. -
I installed satellites for years and did a lot of service calls residential and commercial. The longer that dish stays on the roof the more damage it will do just from my experience. Most techs just use lag bolts and then silicone to seal there work. That dish is always moving ever so slightly from wind and stuff and as it vibrates over time it wears those holes out. The worse part is it can be leaking a long time before you realize its leaking. I always talked my customers into a ground mount unless there were obstructions and the roof was the only way possible but that rarely happens if you know what your doing.
I like the setups with the pols you guys have pointing the dish is not hard even without out the satellite finders and tools. There really is only small adjustments needed. I would mark the elevation of the dish on the pole to speed it up. If you mark you dish in say Chicago and find yourself in Florida you know you only have to raise your dish a couple degrees then mark your dish again then when say your in TN the dish would need to be somewhere in the middle. A simple compass can give you general direction for your azimuth so if your elevation is close you just need to point it in that general direction and you'll hit it. I use to be able to hit a satellite blind the box in the house no tools outside go in and had 90% signal. If you guys are pointing these things every night it will be cake for you by the end of the week.
They ask your zip code for two reasons. One reason is your zip gives you the proper elevation, azimuth and in some dishes off set to hit the bird. The other is to remain compliant with the LAWS LOL your not aloud to get local TV if you don't live in that viewing area even if your in that viewing area (I think its a tax thing or something with money) LOL I don't get it either but its a big no no. It's been along time since I've done that work it amazes me how far the technology has come I think its great. I'll be going with a similar setup as some of you I'm sure. Sorry for the long winded response just trying to add some info.

I had dish v cube and wouldn't have it again. We don't watch a tv very often unless laid over.
Found we had to call Dish Network every time we left it down for more than approx. 2 weeks. Supposedly had to get them to send a tick to make it work. Also found hard to get reception in the northern states.
Next time we'll go with Direct TV. Now currently using netflix. -
Using Netflix? How do you download, thru your phone? Does it use up all your data?
-
Can only get netflix to download on our laptops, not the streaming player-tv.
Our data plan-mifi allows up to 6 gigabite downloads which equals to about 10-14 hours of download. Would be easy to go over if used very much. So far haven't gone over.
