What MPG difference do you guys think I would see if I went from my Pete 379 EH, 63 inch sleeper with a 475 CAT, 10 speed, 3.7 ratio 12k FA, 38k RA, and started driving an FLD13264-t classic, flat top 70 sleeper, with a detroit 515, 18 speed, 4.10 rears with lockers, 14k FA, 46k RA? PETE is a 99, FL would be a 2006. Pulling flats of sawn lumber to the kilns and whatever home.

No. I run around moving machinery now. But am going to start with the flat bed gig. I'd like something newer and this rig really got my attention. Just not sure about those specs for what I want to do. I'm really doing this backwards I think! But it's a nice clean truck.

Those are pretty standard specs for HH in the north east. Not going to get the big milage #s the guys around here talk about. But hauling lumber in the northeast kingdom it should do a good job. Are you permited for 99k?

Will be. What I worry about is the whole equation-if I'm hauling bagged mulch sometimes will i regret having those heavy specs?

Certainly not spec'd for fuel economy , but Heavy Haul trucks never were. Your PETE will do the job or is there off road work involved.

    5 mpg average over the year. Winter 4.7 - 4.9, summer 5.2 - 5.4

Going on the highway with lighter loads won't give you any mileage, truck's way too slow in that situation...

If your going to do roadie work full time maybe. But in NY and the northeast (except CT) your golden . An occasional road mission won't matter. What's the difference in tare weight between the 2 trucks? With that detroit it might not be very much.

The Pete will do the job but I'm pretty sure that you would like to have a 13- or 18-speed every now and then...

    turnanburn Thanks this.

Yes but if its paid for the need for a 13 / 18 speed over the NO PAYMENT might be nice as well. I ran up in that area hauling logs & lumber quite a bit with an 8 speed W900 highway specd tractor and survived.
