Sitting in the hotel room in Gary, IN. Starting flatbed orientation tomorrow morning. Excited and ready to get started. I am going to try and update my orientation/training adventure daily, or as often as possible. Any advice from you veterans is more than welcome.

Best wishes, and congratulations on your success so far.

If you feel like sharing, what helped you decide to go with Roehl and with flatbedding? I am looking at Roehl also (of course), and interested in flatbedding specifically. To me, it seems like there may be a little more variety in the workday with flatbed -- driving, loading, unloading, tarping, strapping/chaining/securing loads, etc. One of the things that concerns me about driving, in general, is the limited opportunity for physical exercise. Flatbed seems to offer some opportunity for exercise. Plus, it appears that flatbed may pay a little better than van.

    Take care.

I'm not sure if your question was to me or the op. I'll answer for me though, roehl was the highest paying starting out, I started in van and got bored with ONLY driving and sitting. Flatbed offered more physical work and more opportunity.

I get paid very well on mileage and once you add tarp pay you'll have a nice payday.

Tarping in the rain sucks, but you will lose weight flat bedding. My blood pressures down from being physically active almost every day other than just walking to the truck stop

The reasons I wanted to flatbed include what DirtyDiesel said. I also want to do more than just drive and end up putting on even more weight. A little hard work doesn't scare me. I actually look forward to it. I also feel like their is more of a brotherhood among flatbedders. The reason I went with Roehl is because I felt like I could make a good living as long as I am willing to do the work and still have decent home time. One of my instructors at school drove for Roehl for 13 years and had a lot of good things to say about them. First hand info means a lot.

I really appreciate the well wishes! Hope everything works out.
