I gotta get out of here!
I love my family to death, but the road is calling me!
I've been home since 08/01 waiting on my finisher and I am growing stir crazy.
Other than family vacations, I've never taken more than 2 days off in a row in the last 15 years.
Just sitting around the house drives me nuts.
Coming from Restaurant Management I work long hours 6-7 days a week. My body has been conditioned for this since 17 years old when I got my first Assistant Manager position.
LOL.....I'm sure I will probably be singing a different story in a few weeks but right now....
My "honey do" list is done. I've added items to it over the last few days and knocked those out as well.
I've done a crap ton of yard work (that didn't really need to be done)
I've detailed my car (funny since I wont even be enjoying it over the next month)
I've built a speaker box for my truck (for when I complete training and get my own keys)
I've read just hundreds of posts in this forum (some very amusing stuff btw)
I've purchased a new tool bag and loaded it with all new tools off of suggestions from this forum.
I've packed, unpacked, streamlined, reorganized etc my bags for my time with my finisher! (lol)
I've taught my pit some new commands in Spanish and taught my wife how to execute them. (black women speaking Spanish is crazy sexy btw)
I've taken my wife to the range and now have her consistent within a 5 inch pattern at 30 ft with a 9mm. (she's now more deadly than me!)
I've purchased all new counter tops, flooring, fixtures, paint for the house we just bought and are moving to when I get back....
I've gone through all of my files in my office eliminating duplicate stuff, old stuff etc.....(amazing how quickly one can fill 2 bags with shredded docs)
I've converted all of my bills to auto pay so that my wife doesnt have to worry about the small stuff while gone.
I've updated all of my "online" information in different forums, websites etc. (that task sucked...it's amazing how many digital you's you can create)
I've wiped and refilled my I pod with music.
I've reformatted the hard drive and reloaded all software on the family computer....
    Get the idea!?
    So effin bored......
Sorry to rant, and thanks for reading!

Lol...learned from both of my parents. Father was in operations management for the newspaper industry for most of my life and mom is #### near a genius who made school a career until dad forced her to use her $150,000 education to get a job. lol...now she runs a dept for general dynamics. Only child, so their productivity was ground into me from the beginning. Dad gave me a lawn mower at 8 and told me that was how i would make money for what i wanted!

    I don't mean to sound cynical here....but.

It sounds like you're going into this new world with a lot of energy and enthusiasm.

Trucking is a completely different world than managing a restaurant, I'm sure you realize this, but there are going to be a lot of times when you wondering why you even went into this at all. It can be a very stressful job, and there are a lot of men (and women) who have been tested to the breaking point, and a lot of them have broke and left the industry.

All I'm saying is that when these situations happen, and they WILL HAPPEN, don't become disillusioned and throw in the towel, just keep your cool, do your best, and take what comes.

There have been times when I've literally started bawling (once was getting lost at night in New Jersey, and the other was when I hadn't been home in a long time, and my load home was taking 5 hours to load). But I'm still here. I guess I'm crazy enough, and you have to be crazy enough too, to do this job.

I'm sure you've read all this before, reading as how you've browsed the forum a bit, but PLEASE remember that trucking is not a joy ride, nor a vacation, and the quicker you get the bumps and bruises, the quicker you heal from them and become jaded to the negatives of the job, and then you can focus on the positives of the job and also know how to do your job better.

I just don't want you to experience trucking for 1-3 months then decide that's it's not for you, and then leave the industry. Just please lower your expectations enough so that when the job actually does exceed your expectations, then it's a big plus and brightens your day.

That is all, and good luck!!!
