I am due to Fontana in a couple of weeks and I will need some training. I understand CRST will sponsor my training and have me sign a contract to pay it off. But I also have the option of prepaying for my training and it will cost me less. It's kind of hard to figure out from the brochures I have exactly what the difference is.
Can anyone itemize what the difference is between the two payment plans? Assume, if you like, that a student goes for the full training to explain the difference.

Im not sure on the diff......but I would hope you would rethink doing the company sponsored training....ive heard alot of horror storys about getting asked to leave for diff reasons and being stuck legaly with a 7000 dollar bill. I went to a community college in opelika alabama and was poor as hell when I did....i qualified for the work investment act gov. Scholarship. You should check it out and see if you qualify. Crst is not a good company to work for.....very dishonest to their drivers

Again, CRST has two different ways that you cover the cost of your training. They can sponsor you and you sign a contract to work eight months with pay deductions until your training is paid off which they say is about $3,200. Or, you can pay up front $2,500 and you don't have to sign a contract at all.
Now, what I am trying to find out is what the details of this deal are. They say there are a few things you don't have to pay for if you pay up front and, naturally, when you start working, you don't have the pay deductions.
I am reading the brochure on the CRST training program and it says, "... Option 1 is our company-sponsored program, which is TUITION-FREE as long as you work for CRST for 8 months. ..." But that's not exactly what I heard. My understanding is they deduct the cost from your paycheck for that 8 months and this explains part of Option 2, "... NO 8-month contract, and you earn more money in the first six months compared to a student under our 8-month contract! ... " How else would earn more money unless you didn't have the pay deductions?
This kind of lack of detail might account for the accusations that CRST lies to its drivers.
Can anyone itemize the details of Option 1 and Option 2? Can we get a list of the different expenses that you pay for in either case? Are you paying interest on some loan when you sign a contract? Is that why it is more? -
It's not per se a deduction what it is is a reduced cpm pay during the 8 months. So if you pay up front you start out at a higher cent per mile rate.

OK, but if you won't or can't fulfill the contract then you are obligated to some balance to be paid off. Even if you don't contract to make pay deductions when you sign a contract, in effect that's what you are getting when you sign a contract. And that sounds fair, but it could be made clearer that you assume some financial obligation. And what exactly is that financial obligation? And how is it different from what you are paying for if you pay in advance? Are there other differences? The difference between paying in advance shouldn't be explained by interest fees on the sponsored program. The difference is too great. There must be something else you don't have to pay for if you pay in advance.

if you cant fulfill or wont then you have to pay back the company tuition of 4k unprorated plus bus,housing,and the dot phsy , or if you pay up front its 2500 with no contract an .31 a mile

What is meant by "prorated"?
So are you saying that if you prepay the $2500, you don't have to pay for the bus, housing or dot physical? -
That still comes out of your pay, prorated
means if u work 6months there not going to credit the amount due
