You get what you pay for. If it seems too good to be true, it is!

I'm not sure I get what you're saying. I'm not going to shoot the messenger so don't worry about saying something I might not like. Give it to me straight---in a way that's constructive. The facts are that I am in a CDL school that is less than 160 hours. When I am done, are you suggesting that I go to an additional CDL school paid for by a company like Marten or WSE, or that I should go with a company like Schneider who will train me on the job. You've been very helpful so far. I appreciate the time you've taken to respond.

Well, if Schneider will take you at that school, I am guessing that is about your best bet. But if it were me, I would go to a PDTI certified school. One thing is for sure. If you do go to Schneider, you MUST stick with them for 1 year or it will be hard to get hired anywhere with only that school under your belt.

Maybe this thread will help someone else decide on a CDL school. The CDL school I am attending has acted in a professional manner and been helpful during the entire process. My trainer has 30 years experience. They are delivering what they promised and I am happy with them. The only complaint I have is the lack of certification and standard hours you mentioned. Wish I'd been less ignorant before I made my decision.

Yes, one year seems like the least I should stay at a company that invests in me. They owe me a decent wage, but I would owe them loyalty and a good attitude. Thanks again for your help.

wc5b, it seems that people are taking your opinion very highly in this thread. Just curious though, where do you get your info?

I am not sure if you were aware, but Marten is in the process of installing APU's on their tractors- which includes an inverter, Espar fuel fired bunk heater, and the APU itself. Not to mention 90% of the tractors that I have seen have driver installed inverters in them already. They must not be very strict about their policy.

I am not trying to stick up for Marten but actually just showing that info should be verified before it is posted. Looks to me like some people are possibly making career decisions off of the info posted in these threads. We should probably all try to keep it as accurate as possible.

You were very correct though in saying that their equipment is excellent.

No problem there, that is good info then. Marten is one of my favorite companies out there, so I list them in other posts like this as someone to look for. A couple weeks ago I talked to, ummm, Heidi? A recruiter anyways. I just simply asked if it was allowed to install an inverter and she simply said no. I was shooting questions at her. LOL To me, this is very important, but I also state most the time that it is all about the driver on what company is the best fit. I got the load locks policy from another thread on this forum. As for the equipment, if its not apparent just being on the road, its not hard to find a Marten driver to ask. :D Please, no one be afraid to correct me. Thats awesome to hear that they are going APU!

tim, if you look at the other posts by wc5b you can get a feel for the type of the person he is. His posts are informational and make a contribution. You've always got to be critical of people online but my guess would be that he's a decent person. Wish there were more people out there like that.

Thanks for the kind words. You are 100% correct. Nothing on any forum is 100% true proven fact. It is 90% opinion. What you really need to do with a forum of this nature is do searches within it for similar threads. See consistent views from non-consistent. See if some statements are more emotion then fact. Many people don't ever post anything, and then the one thread they post is when they have a bone to pick. You have to weigh it all out. I completely understand that what I post is of my opinion and my own research in a lot of cases when direct questions are being answered. The great thing of forums like this is that flat out mistake often quickly get corrected. I have been wrong, trust me, I seen me do it. HAHA happy surfing

average truck age according to recruiter..I got a POS had 340,000miles on it. took me 3 months to finish their 275hours, they like to put students on Dollar General account unloading trailers.. paperless logs is awesome, safety dept is pretty good, your usually assigned your next load within 20 minutes of dropping one.....BIG downfalls 1- almost every piece of equipment gets red tagged going into terminal with looooooong lines to wait in for repair. usually they drop n hook trailers at drop yards(dirt lots) to avoid being red tagged. alot of their qualcomm directions are bad and alot of appointment times are screwed up..Ive had plenty of appts to get loaded on days the shipper isnt even open 2- PARS canadian loads never right( alot of downtime ) 3- they run you extremely close to having late loads-these load times are werners not your cons appointment times....done plenty of drops I was a few minutes from being late where the load sat there for a few days before another driver I know picked it up to finish taking it to cons. all in all werner isnt the best, but I dont think they are the worst either........................oh also no inverters with Werner either, although they did let us idle but you wont get a fuel bonus like that( bonuses are unrealistic) to get fuel bonus i believe you had to fuel up at the beginning of the month at a terminal and at the end of the month at a terminal.....dispatchers try to keep you away from terminals due to red tagging ....any good load you get will be repowered within 3-400 miles...first 5 months after you go solo you will STAY in the north east.
    hope this helps good luck
