Hey guys.. I'm guessing a lot of you have read my posts.. I'm here sporadically when I'm not working (and I've been working a lot!)

Just to get it out of the way I'm currently working for Sanjel out of the Red Deer base. I started out in pumping services and am now in Frac.
Company has been excellent, they really have - I can't say enough great things about them.. sure there are a few sour people here and there you work with but whatever, they're everywhere...
So they just bought two new crew vans, I put my name in for a position and next week myself and 2 others are being driver evaluated on them to decide who goes for the two day course.

The salary is about 10k/year higher than what i'm currently making + 100/day that you drive + expenses (20.00 if you're away from base for 4 hours, it goes up from there)
I think the last driver made near 75k last year, it seems not too bad.. I could easily eclipse that - I've made over 3k in bonus's this month already and its a pretty slow time.

Plusses.. would never have to rig in, nor rig out, nor put my coveralls on anymore :D (lots of shop days lately since the thaw has dragged on so long)
downside, lose out on some nice bonus's.

Has anyone here held that position, was it ok, did it suck.. tell me about it.

I'm considering it.. no shop days, no rigging in/out, no coveralls, I wouldn't be around chemicals or sand dust - just purely driving..

Work to pay ratio has to be the best. 75k isn't frac money though. Other frac companies are steady now. Maybe switch

sounds like a retirement type job not a noob job, in other words how valuable are you if you left as a van driver?

how many days a month are you working to only make 65k? i thought frac was big $?

What is driving your decision to get on a bus? If the iron is wearing you down why not try getting into a sand or n2 bulker.

Most guys that drive a bus are either older guys who can't handle the iron anymore or they were injured and can not do heavy work no more.

Your salary may be higher, but your yearly income will be lower.

Im gonna give the sand can a try next rotation. More driving, less sitting around on lease.

Sanjel I would never work for them again. I was bad in the 90"s and hope it got better since then, but doubt it. Sorry but I have nothing good to say about them. So I will shut up.

Yeah.. Sanjel (or most companies) of the 90's are nowhere near what they once were.. Most every company of the time was hammer down, no safety, work til you die.. its not like that anymore at all.

There are other considerations BoomTruckin - I can rig in, hoist iron etc.. I just completed the horsepower course and other stuff.. I used to run a cement bulker and before too long I'll be haulting around the big bass's (trican calls them hogs?) - All the sand positions are taken up right now, same with the hp's, I'm happily a floater/spare atm - I run bass when on lease, i hang around the pump shack etc.. What I'm thinking tho is more along the lines of long term - are exposure to hydrocarbons and chemicals on a daily basis, possibility of injury (I've seen tough guys go down if they lift incorrectly or a near miss if some goof drops a wrench on you)

I guess it comes down to.. live longer or make more money?

I dunno.. I do like driving, maybe I'll go work for Lucien :D

It can be.. I'm at 37500 for the year so far on tomorrows pay.. that included 4k relocation bonus, 1500 new hire bonus.. my salary is 38,400/year -
My pay on this cheque was 1467 salary + 1593 bonus and I lost 903 to taxes, so cleared just over 2150.

I should have about ~1600 or so in bonus on the 24th cheque and somewhere around 500ish in expenses..

So I'm guessing if things continue I'll about double my salary for the year.. 80k isn't all that much but I'm new-ish and its enough, as I'm lucky that we have a lot of local work so I'm home with the family almost every night. I could go do some insane 18 hour day 21/4 rotation up in frozen balls alberta but no thanks, I'm not that hungry for cash.

I'm only a few thousand behind you and only worked 4 months this year. You can do better...

Lucien is offering good work, but it's not home every night.
