70 percent disability???? PTSD ONLY??? Stop and think about what your saying (I know I'm going to get flamed for this but somebody has to say it) If your claim is true and factual and you're not leaving anything out, some doctor has said your are only 30% capable of of NOT being depressed or potentially psychotic at some point in the near future. You can't have it both ways, either you are healthy enough (mentally) to pursue a job that leaves you solely responsible (with little/no medical support while OTR) for $170k worth of equipment with an extremely high level of public exposure and various stresses, or you aren't. And frankly --70%-- disability (mental) is going to scare a lot of potential employers, regardless of the line of work, and rightfully so, given all of media attention it has received.
I'm not saying PTSD is not a real issue, but i am saying the military pushed too many soldiers to press for as much PTSD disability as they could get and may have in fact not done the vets any favors. An employer has a right to only hire mentally fit employees and you're wearing a sign that says some doctor thinks you are only 30% mentally fit.Fatboy42, keepntruckin, NYROADIE and 5 others Thank this. -
There is two ways you could go with this. One is, if you continue to be turned down for employment. Go back to VA and apply for permanent 100% disability for unable to be employed. Being at 70%, you more likely to get it. It's as simple as turning in VA form 21-4138 supporting your claim.
Second option, Some information is a need to know basis. I've found on VA disability, some things employers do not need to know, unless it's something obvious as a surgical scar or if your a amputee. Otherwise you will be chasing for employment for awhile. I DO NOT supply a dd214 nor give access to my VA medical file to any employer period
If you are taking any narcotic prescription, you can not drive.CAXPT and CondoCruiser Thank this. -
I agree stexan I see ur point...but if my docs think I'm fit to drive then I don't see the problem...the employer has his or her rights...I understand...I just wish that my disability pay was enough to provide a decent living for my family..
CondoCruiser and CAXPT Thank this. -
Keep looking Werner is not the best place anyway. Be true to yourself and next time don't mention your disability rating keep it to yourself. A lot of companies shy away from anybody with any kind of disability mentioned in their records which is very unfortunate. They will say that they provide equal opportunity but as soon as they see the word "disability" they just think that you may need special attention or accommodation which they feel they are not ready to provide it's a true fact but they will not tell you that straight to your face. If they don't ask for your DD214 don't give it out.

So how do I prove my employment record with the army...if they ask for it what do I tell em that won't cause suspician or look like I got something to hide?
-
Not sure where you live but you could also look into Texas oil field companies, they love hiring vets.Good Luck.

Well, Werner sure wouldn't be my first choice for an employer. However, I think you should contact a lawyer with this.
