The log test was pretty basic, examine completed logs and note any violations. Plus some questions. Anyone who has run paper logs should have no problem. Now if all you ever did was e-logs and didn't really study the hos rules you may have trouble.

does CRST lease their volvo 780's i passed one the other day and it was pulling a flatbed trailer. just curious of trucks they are leasing. Gravdigr, what load boards do you use? how do you get load confirmation from your dispatcher if no qc. is there any paper trail so you can make sure of dollar amounts to truck?

First off I'm not your son, I'm probably to old. Secondly, do you think just cause I don't have it posted to the left my time in this business I don't have any? If so, your an idiot just like the other two! I also don't need to brag about what i have or what I can do, I just know I have it and know I can do it! Very few on here know me and who I am and I like it that way.

I've got underwear with more driving experience than you...:biggrin_2552:

Funny, I can believe brad believing everything he hears or reads, but you should know better with 34 years experience...LOL

Its really a shame how many people out here like to work harder instead of smarter!

I don't know about the volvos. Most of what I see are '09-'10 columbias. I got a '10 columbia. As for load confirmation. I get everything over the phone and I write it down on some custom load sheets I made. It was something my trainer taught me back when I first started driving. All my info for every load goes on that sheet, from shipper and receiver info, to pay and estimated miles vs hub miles, every state I drove through plus loaded and empty miles in each one. Keeps everything organized and handy for when I fill out my pay sheets.

    DrtyDiesel Thanks this.

I can vouche for Les2's iron hauling experience and dealing with some of these companies. He has done more steel hauling in a year than most will in a lifetime. When it comes to wrenching, paperwork, and other areas of the truck he ranks up there too. Maybe before you start making statements about someone not being a driver you need to check out his other posts. LOL A little more research goes a long way. LOL TO sum it up this way...Les has a high dollar custom ordered MAC flat that he pulls around Ohio hauling iron. If that doesn't mean anything to you then you need to learn more about flatbedding. LOL

Now back to the original thread. Good luck man, but every CRST truck I've seen hasn't been in good shape...that says a lot.

Yeah, the malone trucks are from the van division and those guys beat the wee outta them. Mine isn't too bad, it had 448k on it when I got it. I just had some small issues to be fixed, nothing major. But of course some of these van guys don't know when to stop when backing and wind up jacknifing and bending up the cab extenders. But the rest of the truck isn't bad looking.

Thanks for the test info I have always used paper logs. Didn't think it will be a big deal I had read your post where one of the O/O had failed it and thought it might be tough. Any other tips you can think of would be welcome. Do you use a tablet or a smart phone to get on the load board.

As for les2 I have changed my mind I think He is a manager at Werner that wears experienced underwear. He has a custom trailer? I bet he has a custom truck to pull it? He must have one to be able to drive more in a year than other drivers do in a lifetime. Anybody can be anything on the internet even a supertrucker.

WOW! You really have no clue. He is the farthest you can get from a mega fleet wanna be driver or manager. Custom trailer...yep to haul some of the loads he has you need it. You probably don't even know where to start when it comes to specing a custom flatbed for iron hauling. Lets see your knowledge...what spacing for the crossmembers, pin setting, axle spacing, axle weight ratings, what wheel bearings, coil well, number of air bags, air line diameter, landing gear ratings, chain size? These are all the things Les2 (and I for that matter) has knowledge on because of working this industry for decades. By working I don't mean in a office, he is one of the guys that can throw 4 chains, a strap over top of the coil, and pull his tarp over in less time than many guys can throw 2 chains. Plus all his are done correctly and not looking like a spider web stretching 10 feet from the coil. If I needed a job I wouldn't be afraid to work for this man. Him or I are not internet supertruckers. We are out on the roads everyday fighting traffic and hauling loads that the vast majority of drivers won't even consider cause they are scared. We do this for the pay and pay only...okay, a little bit of tradition since it runs in our blood.

The only reason Les was bring some things to light was becuase he has first hand experience dealing with CRST. I have some dealings with them too, but it is only from brokering a couple loads from them. Will I ever take one of their loads...never again. But the deal gravdigr has might work if he gets a good mechanically sound truck and keeps it running making a profit every mile.

The other o/o that failed the log test was spanish speaking. English was his second language and I guess he couldn't read it well enough to pass the written part of the test.

I have an alienware netbook I take on the road with me. With an 11" screen it's small enough to be easily moved around the truck yet it has the power of a desktop. I use that tethered to my smartphone for internet to check the load boards.

And can we please put the rulers away and end the measuring contest, all of you. I take all advice here and use it to think for myself. I don't care if the person is a trucker, broker, agent, or just someone who studies the industry. Contradict all you want, with facts to back up your statements, but can we please end the namecalling and vetting of other posters. It accomplishes nothing but derailing the thread.

    Thank you.
