All these supertruckers and their $10/mile freight lol
The only one getting paid are the real companies with real customers
But to be fair, $1.78 ROUNDTRIP on 4000 + miles isn't as bad as everyone is saying, they just don't want to admit that, yes, somebody else can also get their hands on decent freight. While you're unloading & reloading everyday getting 5 hrs sleep and waiting between each and every load this guy is comfortably running 700 miles a day and getting to go right back to where he came from without having to sit around all day or make two dozen phone calls and dealing with the usual shipper/receiver bull****. And theres also no guarantee youre going to book 3 or 4 superloads in a row to make your "minimum". You might sit for a day between loads, that would absolutely kill your "minimum". Ever heard the saying "time is money?" Well there's a reason for it.MHC and Boardhauler Thank this. -
Why didn't the OP look for a load for the return trip?
Even a partial load that didn't pay very well would have turned this run into a nice little earner. -
Thanks catrucker916.
I know I booked the driver a good load. I appreciate genuine, constructive criticism because it offers learning points;but that education becomes deluded when it includes
Those rates just don't exist on the load boards, excepting specialized. etc.
Yesterday, one of my clients was in SC. Said he wanted to see Niagara Falls. Generally, I won't send a truck to the Northeast---too many tolls, traffic slows the truck, outbound rates & mi not worth the hassle...But he got what he wanted:
Chester SC---Niagara Falls NY
30k lbs, stone, no tarp
$2000 / 717 ld mi = $2.79/mi
And the driver gets some nice pictures. -
4 ft either side of container. Nothing worth stopping for.

I was more thinking off loading inside the container.
Done it before. -
You won't accept constructive criticism for what it is. Good rates and freight does pop up on spot more than most guys think. I find it hard to believe I'm the only person that's ever found any and built up several good business relationships that keep me and another truck busy. You have very low expectations of spot and no-one is going to tell you anything to the contrary, so it's no surprise all you find is $1.78 on 2,000 miles so why complain since you already know that's as good as it gets and no-one does better? You and your owners are so keen on revenue per day, 700 miles per day, etc... ...that is a mileage mentality. You aren't even thinking about the business. How long have you been doing this? Do you not have any go-to brokers that can keep your trucks consistently busy at good rates. You can make good money off load boards but not if you can't think outside of a box. If you can't or are unwilling to network then that self imposed limitation is going to hurt you.

Oscar the KW and j3411 Thank this. -

how could you possibly say I am a work for free driver when I'm clearly stating that you should choose loads based on what pays you the most net/week, net/year ? I clearly stated I would choose the load that makes me $1300 in two days over the load that makes $1000 in two days. Maybe you would not haul either one, good for you, way to stick it to the man. I'm just trying to keep the money rolling in and maybe one day I will be able to run steady for $3/mile. but if you think I'm gonna sit around the truckstop for days waiting for that load and convince me that that will put more money in my pocket by the end of the year you're gonna have to provide some logic, because I don't see it.

I'm an independent O/O sole proprietor, do you really think I should figure it that way ? I mean that would make a big difference, if I thought of it as .40/mile paying me to drive the thing as an operating expense or something.
