I don't know about pre-EGR ISX but the later generations might as well have the same 24k gold paint on the parts as CAT's. They're really not so cheap. N14 engines and parts on the other hand are a dime a dozen.

    NOTHING pulls like a CAT ! :yes2557:
Cummins have been good to me as well. Detroits are flat land motors, totally lame for dragging heavy weight up a hill

Cat has better durability than the other 2. Cummins is can get better fuel mileage than a Cat. You can get 8-9 mgp with a Cummins, depending on the driver (dont believe the hype that only Det gets all the fuel mileage, it's only hype by the big companies). But Cummins is cheaper to maintain. There are my 2 cents worth. Good luck and god bless. Be safe driver

Cats were stronger more reliable engines but with the new regulations they stopped making them i had a 600 hp cummins with a 18 speed for 2 years that i dont know were they claimed to be 600 hp when my old cat 525 hp was way better for pulling heavy loads anyway with out the cats being around now i would choose a cummings over any of the other junkers

    HwyPrsnr and gdyupgal Thank this.

I have a 11.1 ser 60 ddec 3 it out pulls, & out performs in everyway, compared to my neighbors 05 detroit. he had eveything under the hood replaced. parts are more than twice as much as mine. turbo for his cost 2 grand, mine cost $ 580.00 no cor either. but my original is still running strong at 1.4 million miles.he told me, if he did not get the warranty he would be broke, cause so far on the last year, the engine dropped a valve, twice. had engine rebuilt, turbo, e.g.r. fan clutch, air to air, , just pointed at almost everything under the hood, had to be replaced. he said his pete w/ a 475 cat got as good m.p.g. & more dependable. I would go with a 03 pre e.g.r ser 60 detroit over any other engine.
