Was on my way to the high school to drop kid when I saw the weekly Swifty making his delivery to the Dollar Tree. As I drove by I saw the tractor dumping coolant like a waterfall so I went around the building and pulled into the ally where the driver was unloading. I told him about the leak and he said the truck overheats all time time because the fan clutch is having issues. Any way, took the kiddo to school then drove back to the driver. When he was finished I drove him to Autozone so he could buy more coolant as he used his last 3 gallons before leaving Fontana terminal this morning. He said he has been driving for Swift since 2009 and after almost 3 years finally got a new truck, a Freightliner, in May. He stayed out 11 weeks then took 2, only 2, days HT in Fontana. When he returned his new truck was gone and he got the '09 Volvo with the cooling problem and no A/C that the driver who took his truck left behind. He said his DM's advice was to take an advance so he could buy coolant as there were no truck to swap him out with.
I have read more than a few threads about drivers losing their trucks for daring to take HT. I think this policy sucks eggs. Yeah I know, buy your own truck and you don't have to worry, but I am company for life. I would run my own truck into the ground as I have zero experience with running my own business nor do I care too.
Is Swift really short handed regarding trucks or is someone playing games?
This truck stealing stuff is bunk

Thays nuts! I can see a company swapping out if your gone for more than a couple weeks but 2 days! Last year I took 5 weeks and thought they'd want the truck back, but it sat in the back of my driveway the whole time, guess we have more seats than ###'s to put in em!

i just took 4 days off and still had my truck when i got back

It totally depends on the terminal and their policies regarding how long you can take off of work and keep your truck.
This was one of the driving factors in my decision to lease a truck. As long as I pay my fixed costs I can take as little or as much time off as I want. -
Some Terminals are worse than others also depends on Ranking and where you live and your HT is.

The driver should of kept the receipts, scan them in with you trip and swift re-imburses them, I'm in the lucky situation where I'm a team driver so I'm actually worth something as Rey can rip me off more

That would be an automatic "I quit!" for me. That's not cool.

I might have to clean my truck out when I take 2 weeks this winter to go to Brazil (unless I start training like they want me to), but that doesn't mean my truck will be reassigned, they want it ready "just in case". I told them if they do that, they'd better be ready to replace it with one just like it that has NOT been a smokers truck. Never again will I accept a smokers truck, that's just nasty... The way I look at it, I can take my skills and perfect record elsewhere and probably make more money, so they'd better not play games. Besides, just taking everything out of my truck is enough of a burden (including my fridge); I'm gonna have to borrow a pickup to get it all home because it won't fit in my car. With all the talk of a "driver shortage" out there, I know my skills are in high demand. Therefor, I take no s*#t from the company, they can keep that.
Yet another story that makes me so glad I didn't even consider Swift to start with...

I am shocked to hear a negative commit about Swift. I thought it was the single bright spot in what is a black sky.
No company can make you do anything. If you feel you have been wronged. Speak up.ShootThis and scottied67 Thank this. -
I commend you for looking out for a fellow truck driver when on your personal time.Too many would have said "To bad for him",and drove on by.
