My comments aren't meant to defend USX, put to just point out the ignorance of these statements as a whole.

Honestly, do you think that someone is sitting around watching every second of one of 6000+ trucks and then figuring what the speed limit is exactly where they are at and then making a call to the DOT of which ever state they are in to find out if they are in an active construction zone?

The beauty of having more than one account is that when something changes, you're not out of business. If a small company is relying on one customer to keep them going and something happens, the load board freight they have to resort to is going to put their drivers on the bread line fast.

I'm just going to guess and say that USX has maybe 20% of their trucks assigned to dedicated accounts so compared to a small company I guess 1200 trucks is a lot, but with other accounts available as well as regional and OTR fleets, no one is going to be out of a job any time soon unless the other options available don't work for them and they choose to go elsewhere.

I believe that some smaller carriers don't push their drivers, but then again, they don't have to. I've been doing this long enough to know that almost anyone running a paper log is falsifying it on nearly a daily basis.

No one running paper is showing when then spend 4 hours at a shipper or receiver, or 2 hours for dinner and a shower, they just crunch that down at the end of the day into 15 minutes for each stop and, "Voila!, I still have time on my 14 hour clock, let's roll!" Oh yeah, and don't forget the 1.5 hours you can log running from Indiana to Wisconsin straight through Chicago construction when it really took 3.5 hours. (No one will ever know).

Try missing a few deliveries in a row because you were "tired" but had hours left and let us know how that works out. Chances are it doesn't work out no matter who you work for.

I did almost the same thing as you from 1996-2007 and made a very nice living. When it got to the point that I didn't need to be home as much for my family and I was ready for a change, I decided to do something different. I'm glad you're happy where you are and everything is working out for you.

The original poster has been driving for 4 years and is looking for something different. I think when he asks a question about a company, as vague as it was, he deserves an answer that is based on some kind of facts from current or former employees rather than a reference to one 6 year old violation and some ridiculous opinions from someone who probably has no first hand knowledge of the company.

    You make the call...

Better watch what some people say on here... Especially people that say they've been there 2 years and everything is lovely, yet, according to profile, has been driving only for a year.....Don't forget, most truck drivers will say anything to make themselves look better...Especially, if they're bragging about the money...Probably lying........

I made excellent money on a dedicated account out of Goddard,KS about 900+ a week with two days off every week home at night or early mornings with USX Cliff was the freight Mngr there good guy.

USX is a good company it's only the driver and his/her attitude that makes a difference in the length of stay,performance,miles,pay....everything.I KNOW they have excellent dispatchers I had more miles then I needed and speeding thing(geez)not wasting my fingers.

So if you haven't worked there how would you know? Oh yeah the friend of friend of an uncle that knew.... 5speed do what you feel you need to do your a grown man just asking in here without other questions to the recruiter and so on is foolish.

This forum is useful to a lot of people but some just for venting they're frustrations about a company or the wrong turns they made in they're careers be good and BE SAFE!!!

Like I said,,, When they talk about money... watch it......Now, with that being said,,, I have worked for USX....I'm smart enough to KNOW when a company stinks...Some people take whatever they can get...Because believe me,,, If they could get something else... they would leave USX....5 Speed,,,go on to orientation,,,, and then after a few months,,, let us know how you are doing then.......You will then know who's lying, and who's telling the truth... Of course,, if you believe like me..... they will accuse you of lying.....I didn't get fired from them,,, Just didn't like how they run things.....I'm not stupid enough to put up with the crap they dish out...Oh by the way,,,, they are still trying to get me to come back..... NO WAY....

You must have been fired. Cause your way to upset about USX. If you just simply found a better job for you then you wouldn't be trolling around the USX board knockin on us. Sounds like you need a different job yourself. You obviously have way to much time on your hands to be over here jabberin like a teenage girl. No company is perfect and there never will be a perfect one. Unless you got a few million laying around and can start up a major company tomorrow?

Unbelievable . Didn't even ask for info on better carriers . And with all those oilfield companies paying big money in WV . I guess people don't believe BFI's have recruiters online pretending to be drivers loving a carrier the way cops have officers online pretending to be teenage girls .

Okieboy, I'm certainly not calling you a liar. I know that you worked for USX and as you say you, "Just didn't like how they run things".

It didn't work out for you, maybe a bad FM, maybe something else, but we don't know. If you really want to help others on here, it would be nice if you would tell exactly what happened to you so that potential new drivers and current drivers might be able to avoid the same issues. That's what this forum is for, not to just get on here and blast out that a company stinks without telling how you formed your opinion.

That's great 5speed, like Okieboy said, stay on here and let us know how it goes for you. I'm relatively new to USX and I have had several questions that the more veteran USX drivers have answered for me on here, its been a great tool, continue to use it.

Likewise, if things go south for you at USX also let everyone know, all the information is helpful so long as there are facts and the events that qualify it.

    Good Luck!

Okay JeremyC, I'm just telling 5speed how it was for me,,, and just about everyone else I talked to when I WAS THERE.... I was constantly going to shippers,, and someone else already there to get the same load.. quite a few times,, I'd pick up a load,, and wouldn't get it 20 miles,, and a different dispatch than my own would make me stop and let someone else have it.. It got so ridiculous,, that I dreaded getting the next load . Didn't know what to expect...Always looking for mts to take to next shipper.,,, always....and waiting til my hours were up beffore giving me my next load, which I needed to be there now to pick up,,, and telling me I have to go because this one is a hot load,, and must be there...Now I know this may happen to people once in a while,, but it was constantly.....I ask people that had been there for years, and they said USX Was once a great company,,, Not any more....I knew a guy there that had worked there for 8 years,, loved it,,, said he would be there til he retired,,,, 2 months later he was gone... said he couldn't take the ridiculous crap from them...What happened was that they got rid of a lot of office people too at the time I was there......I think that's why it was so bad....Well , like I said, I had worked for Werner back in 2003, and they were better, even as bad as werner is..... My profile may only reflect 2 years. but I drove from 2003 until 2007, then didn't come back to driving until 2010. I hope everything works out for 5Speed,, as well as you........Good Luck...Peace out...Don't get mad at me and stroke out:biggrin_2556:
