Where in Kansas are you from? I'm from Johnson County and was told not to go the flatbed route because of a lack of loads in the area. They said the reefer side would make it easier to get home, and back out again without having to drive very far to get another load.

I did not know any of that. Thanks you all. I almost made that misstep the other day! I appreciate avoiding redundancy repetitions duplicated all over again!

Yeah, have heard about the same on CR England.
Prime though does come through on Home Time, I Live outside of Reno, NV and getting me a load home is a pain for my FM, I either can go to the Walmart DC in Sparks/McCarren or I pull a load over to the Sacramento CA area and then bobtail home, from Stockton after dropping my trailer. Now that is not to say I am home on the exact day I want but I come close each time, and I go home every 3 weeks.
10-4 on the recruiters, lol, remind me of sales people which in fact they are.
Prime requires us to have the TWIC card as we do go into ports, but they also give us warning to make sure we have the money on hand before we go to training, at least the email they sent me did.
Glad its working out for you with Foodliner, have not heard anything on them. -
Hes grounded... Ill be having a chat with him tonight...
Dont know who told ya that.... but Ive gone through Kansas a lot. We have a few places we pull from in Kansas -
look me up when you get there.
firefox3006 Thanks this. -
Speaking from experience of doing the research and talking with folks at truck stops. Prime was the place to start for me. Now talking with other drivers with and not with Prime. This seems to be the best place to be for me, I know I made the right choice. Get anything the recruiter says in writing. Take a copy of all the information you put on your application and anything you sent the recruiter to Springfield. You will need it again. Haz-mat can wait as everyone else says here, some states don't transfer. You get time after PSD (instruction) and TNT (training) to go home and get all your endorsements and pick gear and equipment you may already have. I did but it was a short trip home.
As for flatbed, not sure about a Kansas regional but I am still fairly new. I out of Syracuse, NY and haven't had any problems with making my schedule home time. Just let your FM know well in advance. Plan on being in TNT for a few extra weeks then the reefer side to learn the securing part. I missed that part and was a little frustrated. Try and find an instructor/trainer that lives close to you that helps too.
Once you get to Springfield talk with the instructors and trainers and get to know them you will be together for a while. A couple of months in truck with the same person can get tough especially if you don't get along. I got along great with my TNT trainer but still was glad to go solo.
Home time is best worked out between you and your FM once you get rolling.
Good luck to you and hope to see out here.firefox3006 Thanks this. -
I am from Richmond Kansas about 35 miles south of Olathe. I have heard the same thing from a few other guys about flatbedding but I am going to attack this head on and hope that I do a good job and after 9 months to a year I can switch to refeer of tanker. Thanks
