What is wrong with this tire?

    Loose bearing first, then kingpin, then three axle alignment at a good shop. Your tires will still keep this wear pattern until they eat down to the softer rubber.

    Some good advise given here but.....

    I think a few things have to be cleared up.:yes2557:

    Do both steers have the same wear pattern?
    (or is one worse then the other?)

    How was the wear on the previous set off steers?

    Did the previous steers shake?

    Why were they replaced?(blow out or just worn out?)

    Do you know how many miles the old steers did?

    Impossible to give a correct response without knowing all the info.

    Yeah, apparently a tweak in your cab will do this. When all was said and done, the cab was tweaked just enough after the frozen state was discovered that they had to shim one side. This made it sit right again.

    Check the cab, if it has a lean to it, even slightly, then this could be the issue.

    I can see that happening. The cab and frame offer each other support. One side being fixed or frozen would pull the frame out of whack by not allowing the cab and frame to work together as designed.

    Excellent. When I leased my XL Classic from C.R.E. (bad day in the neighborhood), I made them do a drive axle alignment because they wouldn't provide me with maintenance records ('show me the car-fax'). The mechanic found the rear drive slightly askew. Added Harmonic Balancers and never had a wear issue... just a CRE issue.

    it needs an all axle alignment and check the shocks as well.

    How to tell if the play in the drivers side wheel, comes from bearing or king pin?
    I know on small car
    you need someone to shake the wheel and you watch what is moving.....

    You do it the same way on a big truck. Grasp the tire at the bottom with one hand and pull while pushing in on the top with the other hand (rock it) and have someone watch closely.

    Is there any tire wear on the opposite side steer tire?

    Yes there is some wear but not as bad as the driver side.......
