Hi All- I'm an O/O and looking to move out of CA before all the smog regulations fully take affect. Just can't afford to keep up with the ever changing standards in this state. My wife and I visited Austin last month and loved it, now it's a matter of finding work. I have a flatbed, but have hauled just about everything. Grapes, lumber, heavy equipment, propane, glass, wine, barrels. I'm interested in work that gets me home daily, or every few days. I'm not interested in OTR. I've been reading a lot about the oilfields anyone know of companies in the San Antonio/Austin that are in need of hard working truckers. I'll work long hours/strange schedules etc.

Any help/advice for the area would be greatly appreciated!

Try these guys ( TAYLOR )

    http://motherearthhaulers.com/owner_operators.php

Take a look at the Corpus / Rockport area for relocation. Or San Antonio to Midland.
Austin is a bit out of the boom zone
If you have your own authority then start calling the pipe makers, fitters, tanks, etc, etc companies and get your own work. These companies that make the oilfield equipment will never buy more trucks than they would need in a non boom cycle. Lots of flatbed work to be had (your own work) in the oilfields.

Thanks Man- actually talked to Taylor yesterday. Unless you have the tank and 2005 or newer they won't use you as an O/O. I'm in a 98 Pete and have a flatbed. I'll take your advice and look into the companies supplying the pipe etc.
