    Hi, I'm new to this site and am hoping this is the right forum to post my question. I need to move a 16x60 singlewide mobile home from Gans, Oklahoma to Stillwater, Ok for my daughter. Please, please...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Thank you for the information you've provided me. I found the mobile home park store when I googled movers along with the suggestion to post my question to truckers. (suggested by the spouse of a trucker). It isn't something I've ever seen going down the highway.... I knew better.....very sorry.

    The mileage rate is pretty normal, but you will pay big bucks to tear down and set up, figure $4-5 thousand.

    I was afraid it would be about four thousand, but five will do me in. I'll keep looking though. I can see why it would cost a few thousand..... I can't give up on finding it cheaper because it's for my daughter who is in college. She doesn't have that much in savings and either do I. She is trying to save money by not staying in the dorm. She is going to be in school for about six more years and the dorm costs two thousand per semester. Good kid.

    The term "you get what you pay for" never had as much meaning as it does in your case.

    Your Daughter...

    Its a home (large investment)...

    Its very breakable...

    There are dozens of ways for transport/set up crews to short change you by cutting corners, some examples.

    Put very old axles on it, when the hub comes off it goes through the floor then you fight with them for months in court to get them to put a new floor, electrical and plumbing in it.

    Old tires, when a tire comes apart (as they often do) it breaks floor joists and tears insulation out of the floor.

    Are they getting oversize permits for every city, county, and state highway they are traveling on or will you get a call in the middle of the move saying "we need more money because the house is shut down because we got busted bootlegging?"

    Are they using all required escorts?

    Put air conditioner, steps and awnings in the house instead of putting them on a separate trailer.

    They will "let you" keep your personal belongings in it even tho they have no household goods authority or insurance.

    Insurance; are you sure they even have cargo insurance or did they spend 10 minutes in the office making an insurance cert?

    Set up; are they blocking according to the manufacturers requirements? Did they even get the set up manual to know if they need perimeter blocking.

    Did they get a compaction test to determine the amount of blocks needed to meet the manufacturers requirements for the weight on each block?

    I could go on and on but you get the point (I hope). That thousand dollars you save will ALWAYS cost you much much more...

    Call a few mobile home dealers or better yet call a few factories that build them. Ask who they use and who they recommend. Yeah the dealer will probably try to sell you a house but thats what salesmen do.
