Studies show that everything will kill you eventually. That said, I don't consume a lot of canned foods specifically because of the sodium content.

In all the years I spent on the road ( 10 yrs ), I very very rarely ate at truckstops, maybe 3 times total. I already knew their food was garbage. neither did I buy but one can of anything. Canned food has been boiled and sterilized to death. But what I did do was have a map of where all of the best supermarkets were in any given state. My favourite ones were Wegmans in the NY state area.
I also had some cold storage to keep stuff cool. I bought mainly fresh deli meats, cheeses, fresh fruits, bottled water and my favourite coffees. junk food was OUT. I never drank any kind of soda either. Too much sugar and I once hauled a load of coke essence out of Dallas, only to find it was a hazmat load. No more Coke for me!!
At the time I would eat breads but I've pretty much eliminated that source. So if I go back on the road I would make sure I had a truck fridge, and stick with the above foods. very healthy, fresh wholesome food and wash it down with fresh cool Perrier water or a nice cup of fresh brewed fresh ground coffee that any Starbucks would be proud of.
How I make my coffee on a truck will always be a closely guarded secret. Don't want to let the cat out of the bag on that topic. If you want to keep off the weight, cut your carbs down drastically. No bread, potatoes, junk chips etc, etc. Sugars are the stuff that will hurt you most, not fats.
But also on occasion, I would find a delightful restaurant to treat myself in. You can keep your McDonalds and BurgerKings/ Taco Bells.......thanks but no thanks:biggrin_25519::biggrin_2553:

Funny Mark Twain quote - wish it was that easy. You can read the labels on any American canned product. The nutrients are reduced by the long cooking/cooling cycle, and there is a lot of salt. It's a flavor enhancer for sure, but it's a preservative as well. So canned goods usually contain an undesirable quantity of salt. I have to watch my BP, so I don't use canned goods. Except for the occasional Vienna Sausage can when I feel like Mr. Twain.

I just don't eat meat with bread or crackers, and I know it takes getting used to. It took me awhile to do it consistently but now it comes naturally. I guess the way I eat is based on the Atkins diet because its the excess of carbs that actually put on the weight. If you study the way the body works, it makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately, there are the naysayers that will trash that notion. I eat a bunch of fresh fruits especially pineapple and berries that fill me up too. It's not wise to totally eliminate carbs so fruits will fill the void. I don't think that salt is as bad for you as it's made out to be. The body needs salt. I also don't believe in all this cholesterol stuff. I'm afraid the evidence that cholesterol causes heart attacks is highly flawed and bogus. But when you see how much the drug companies are making on those cholesterol drugs such as Lipitor, its a 6 BILLION revenue, cash cow. You can see why they want to keep the Propaganda train going, and we the public are dumb enough to believe it all. If you want to read a really interesting book on the topic of nutrition, give "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration" by Weston A Price, DDS, a try. Some of his findings in the book will astound you. Certainly made me think. All based on his studies and observations of many societies.

NO!!!! Can food is not healty. Fresh home made food is healthy. Food in packages is not healthy either. And neither is industrialized food in bags... I am spending a couple months in another country where folks cook their vegetables, legumes, grains, meat etc and they eat it fresh. They don't add a gazillion ingredients and deep fry everything... they keep it simple and natural... :yes2557: and the food tastes so much better.... yummy yummy... :yes2557:

Cholesterol is measured from the blood ! LDL levels indicate amount of place in arteries and veins. Plaque can block blood flow which causes strokes and heart attacks........ no flaws no bogus no s*** !
