if ur loaded sure u will use first but im assuming on a dmv test ur empty...u can start out in 4th on a 10 speed man...u know? hell no dont use 1st...unless jersey requires 1st then go to 2nd and 3rd quickly maybe to 4th and nothing in the intersection....or i guess just do 1st seems odd to me but any who.....

If I were you, from a stop, I would make all turns starting out in 4th gear. This will allow you to make a smooth turn, with enough speed to not need to shift...especially if you are using an empty trailer for the road test.
And one more important item...you will prob be a little nervous...keep track of that trailer at all times. -

If on 5th or 6th and i see red I will begin to downshift but hopefully it'll be green in time for 4th. Or else I will stop. Shift to 1st. Let off on green...2nd.....3rd... maybe 4th... turn wide...straighten up...5th....etc etc. that's my strategy going in -
I was taught to start in third gear, since truck is empty. No shifting in intersection or rr tracks. Test today, in about three hours. Nervous, but I know my shiznit.
