if ur loaded sure u will use first but im assuming on a dmv test ur empty...u can start out in 4th on a 10 speed man...u know? hell no dont use 1st...unless jersey requires 1st then go to 2nd and 3rd quickly maybe to 4th and nothing in the intersection....or i guess just do 1st seems odd to me but any who.....

If I were you, from a stop, I would make all turns starting out in 4th gear. This will allow you to make a smooth turn, with enough speed to not need to shift...especially if you are using an empty trailer for the road test.

And one more important item...you will prob be a little nervous...keep track of that trailer at all times.

The problem is that I always started on 1st and I really don't want to stall the truck in front of inspector lol. So I'm thinking...try to get as far up the gears before the intersection....boom boom..straighten out...go up more...

My "trainer" never told me I can't shift in intersections. I feel that I will shift as much as possible before entering the intersection. I can maybe hope to turn on 3rd

If on 5th or 6th and i see red I will begin to downshift but hopefully it'll be green in time for 4th. Or else I will stop. Shift to 1st. Let off on green...2nd.....3rd... maybe 4th... turn wide...straighten up...5th....etc etc. that's my strategy going in

I was taught to start in third gear, since truck is empty. No shifting in intersection or rr tracks. Test today, in about three hours. Nervous, but I know my shiznit.
