I have posted this question for a couple different carriers.I was just wondering what kind of miles you guys are getting now? Also, are you getting all or most weekends at home and at what time do you usually get in and leave to go back out? I just finished school and have it narrowed down to a couple companies and want to see what is the best fit so I can make the right decision! Thanks for all the help!

From talking with a few drivers McElroy seems to be a good outfit to work for. I came very close to gong with them but chose to be a Maverick.

They are pretty good so far. I am in my first week with a driver trainer. They dont lie, they tell you how many miles they will pay for a route and thats it. Very moral co. at least in cuba, al. I have no complaints. They start at .40 per mile

My husband is pretty sure he's going to go with McElroy, it's the game of telephone tag that he and the recruiter have been playing the last couple of days that isn't exactly a good time, lol. I was wondering if you (or anyone else) could help us with a few questions about orientation and driver training. Mostly we're just looking for a run down of what orientation is like, what kind of challenges tarping brings, what driver training pays...etc.

    Stay Safe Out There! :)

Well orientation is abunch of paperwork, goin to get a physical, goin to do agility test, and videos with test. So far the driver trainer is pretty cool. We just ridin loadin tarpin untarp unload and all again. Tarpin sucks but is good exercise. Some are pretarped most I have haven't been and some places have tarp machines. As far as pay goes what the recruiter tells u is what they pay. Bring food for lunch during orientation and an ice chest for your hotel room

Recruiter got hold of husband Friday afternoon and said as long as background check looks good (which we're not worried about) he could start orientation on October 1st, so long as he passes driving test. Husband is one of those scary smart people so I'm not worried about that either...what does concern me is when I can expect the first paycheck, lol. Priorities, right? :)

When does the first paycheck come- the first Friday of orientation or the second? We're using hubby's GI Bill to fund this...but we don't get our cut from it until *after* the classes are finished (we're guessing might be on the 1st) which means we've had no paycheck all month. Ha Ha....we thought "it wouldn't be so bad....." then again, I thought that about natural childbirth too... Anywhoooooo.....Just two weeks and 3 days to go, but who's counting, right? lol

The second week it will be a paper check then after that it will be every week. And just word to the wise no alcohol at all while at cuba or hotel they will find out they will send you home quick

No worries there :) We're a non-smoking, non-drinking, practically Amish family, lol. We live out in the boooooonies on 155 acres with some farm critters and wild life and prefer them over people, lol. This job couldn't be more perfect for my husband....very little human contact. :biggrin_25520:
