I'll do it for a $100,000 a year, plus 6 weeks paid vacation and 2 weeks paid sick leave, a company provided car for my convienence, membership at the local country club, and $5 a mile to and from the house. Sounds like a lot but I bring value to the table. You'll lose money with a cutthroat. They won't take any pride in the job and will screw it up sure enough.

That's why commission based sales would be a good thing. Tiffy, I know of a girl who works within LS that is looking for a way to work from home so she can take care of her family. With the invention of the internet, it's entirely possible she could do the job from her house and still do a great job for you. PM me if you'd like her contact info.
rollin coal Thanks this. -
Paying on commission would be the best way - it would quickly expose an ineffective slacker. Someone that's really good not only makes good money but also helps you to grow. Win, win.. Now, what is the commission going to be? Good luck with that one, I wouldn't know but there are people on here who could likely give you a better grasp on that. All joking aside glad to see you're still hanging in there.

Could you guys throw out some commission numbers that you think would be fair? Would the best idea be to have a base salary plus commission?
-
I think what would be fair is figure ALL your expenses as accurately as possible. Some like depreciation on equipment will be an estimate of course. But know what that is per quarter and adjust as necessary. But don't include the drivers pay, and don't include paying yourself. Pay that person 30,000 salary + 27% commission on income above that number + 90,000 / quarter. that's based on 7 trucks, is that what you have ?
If you do that when your drivers are making $45,000/yr avg and you are making $157,500 that person will make $60,000. When your drivers are making $55,000/yr avg and you are making $215,000 this person would make $94,500. -
of course that's not addressing taxes, but you get the idea.
-
I have done what Tiffy is needing before, anyone that would do that job for commission is an idiot.

I would start off with a base salary of $30-35k with health insurance and offer the following incentive; when we make money, you make money. Each quarter, if you reach a sales goal we set for you, you'll receive a 10% bonus on your base salary. Each quarter, if you exceed that sales goal, you will recieve a 12.5% sales bonus. That gives that person the potential to earn a total of $15,000 to $17,500 extra on top of their base salary, which is very competitive for a starting position. If you include benefits and retirement, you're looking at an additional $9-12k that you'll spend on that person each year, which puts them up around the $50k range which is very amicable and deserving for someone who is willing to go the extra mile for you. You could also offer step increases, and if you wanted to "profit sharing" options if the person turns out to be that good for you and your company. The only other thing you could do is offer a comission structure of 20-30% of each load they book on your trucks. In the end, it's totally up to you.

I don't pay my girls in the office anywhere close to $60,k a year that's nuts I pay $15.50 a hour they work 40 hours a week 60,k is out there and I could never find anyone that could do everything it's hard just finding someone that knows quickbooks
No if I could find someone like what your talking about I would pay that but your not going to find someone that does sales, quickbooks,OOS,logs, billing, booking loads, and everything your looking for
Good Luck!!!
