No, a company you work for can not take your cdl. They do not issue it the state you test in does. They can sue but all they are going to get is a judgement for the amount of the school, not your license. If he quits before it is isuued that still is not up to the company but the DMV for the state, and they will have no hold on the license.
liviag Thanks this. -
Thank you for reply! We could not figure out how they could take it but they had it put in the paper more than once.
-
and who is this great company?
-
Sounds like they were threatening people to keep them in the program. Must be some reason, a bad company maybe that has to blackmail you into staying. They most likely don't get money from the government if you don't complete the program...hum.

Swift trucking. We were surprised to see that in paperwork. New to trucking so not sure what all can happen .
-
Well, Swift--or any other carrier--cannot "take" someone's license. liviag, can you quote the exact sentence/paragraph where they say this?
-
Correct, the CDL is his......It's BS used to buffalo rookies into compliance............ there will be more too, check everything.
Here, chew on this fact. In your new world there will be co. policy and the law. They don't always agree SO here's the split, you MUST follow the law as it is the minimum you must do. If the co. policy is less, then follow the law, if the policy is more then follow the co. rule. If the rule is BS then follow your nose to a new job.
As in this case, your carrier will try to BS you into doing something. As the captain of your ship you have the final say so. This can be a mighty hot spot at times but it is what it is........protect your CDL at all costs for there are a million carriers and one CDL, yours! Got it?
Good luck. -
theyre probably talking about withholding the certificate of completion for the training.
-
It depends on what they give you. If they give you one of these you must give it back!

DrtyDiesel and CAXPT Thank this.
