Now Moose, lets be realistic. What would you have me do? Pay double the price for the same tire ? I'm all for american stuff but you have to make it competitive with what's out there. I could drop an extra grand for jap tires or 2 grand for Goodyear......but trust me, the Goodyear edges and rubber peels off just as fast as the chinese stuff. -
Often products purchased from China are a join venture between U.S. manufacturers and the Chinese government. The reason many are going to Chinese and other brands for tires is two fold. Quality control is a biggy. At one time U.S. manufacturers made the best products in the world. They were also competitively priced. Workers took pride in their workmanship. Manufacturers stood behind their products. That has change in the last few decades. Some U.S. manufacturers no longer stand behind their products. Too many workers only do the minimum to keep their job and get a paycheck. Unions have played a major role in the declining quality and excessively high prices of some products. Consumers now look for the best price or value for the money. I was slow to try the Chinese tires. After having 9 out of 10 Kelly tires crack in the sidewall and the manufacturer not willing to stand behind their product, I began to look around for alternatives. I have not purchased Goodyear tires in probably 14 years after they refused to warranty 3 tires. Kelly is owned by Goodyear. I have had one of the Chinese tire manufacturers stand behind their tires on two occasions, no questions asked. I am willing to pay more if I get a better product or better service. I refuse to pay more for less or inferior quality.Licensed to kill, gator21 and chalupa Thank this. -
Double Happiness is also a brand of Table Tennis ball that is commonly used. Interesting to see that it is also the brand of a Chinese tire company. I wonder if the same company produces both products??

Well, yes, I understand that.
But one of the biggest gripes in this upcoming election is about outsourcing jobs and companies overseas.
And one of the biggest problems with keeping prices down in this country is due to labor unions.
Not to mention our own expected level of comfort.
It used to be that I would buy American because we made the better product.
Even though it cost more, it did the job better and lasted longer.
Not so these days, because the cost of business has risen so much that American producers have had to cut too many corners to return a profit - or go to another country.
And those costs are directly due to labor unions and government regulations and taxes, as well as everyone wanting to make much more money each year.
And everyone wants to make more each year because costs keep rising, so we need more just to stay on an even keel.
But then, you have to ask yourself, why do costs go up so much each year?
Back to more gov regs, unions pushing for more and more - and these days the gov wanting to take more and more in taxes to fund all the silly programs that they deem necessary.
Like trying to get more people on food stamps, or funding research into the sex habits of prostitutes in another country, or cap-n-trade, extending unemployment to 99 weeks, or a hundred thousand other non-sensical projects.
Sure, it may cost more right now to buy American.
But what are you willing to do to keep our jobs here?
The rest of the world is going belly up even faster than we are.
I think we need to do as much as possible to keep our own country above water. -
A large reason that everything cost so much to produce in this country is all of the regulations that companies have to deal with. I have seen many plants shut down and moved overseas because the government passes some new environmental law prevents the American company from competing.
58Skylane Thanks this. -
thats right.most or all of the problems with the buy american thing is because the government B.S.they have put the screws to the companies so they have to move out to keep producin or shut it down.so..WTF?

It would help bring jobs back to this country if the EPA, Dept of Energy and a few other useless government entities were eliminated. Taxes are another reason why so many companies have moved outside the country. Labor unions are also a major factor in killing jobs. It will be up to the people of this country to lead the politicians to get rid of these obstacles which keep jobs away.
