I very quickly skimmed over these posts because it's been a long day and I just signed up so I'm on forum overload lol but I don't think anyone explained HOW your friend figured around 50k a year. Basically you get your solo rate for every mile the truck moves so let's say you run 2500 mi at an average .35cpm (which is maybe a little high but I figure average experience for most trainers puts them in this payscale.) That's a base of $875/wk for let's say two weeks. You also add the $140/wk for having them, so now you're over 1000/wk base, for two weeks. You add in $350/month for 12 months for upgrades and say 300/month for step up pay, and maybe an extra $200/week for team/super solo for one week, and your average month should look like this, allowing a week off to make it simple:
$875 x 3 = $2,625
$140 x 3 = $420
$350 x 1 = $350
$200 x 1 = $200
Step up = $300
Giving you a grand total of $3,895/mo landing you just shy of 50k/year, and of course I lowballed a lot so there's always room for more. HOWEVER! I must explain that if you are training for the money, you're in it for the wrong reasons! Hope this helps! -
You do understand that there are 4 weeks in a month not 3 right?

That's about right. You can make some extra money doing road tests if you are in the right place at the right time. You might have to sit for a day or two waiting on a student, or you might do a couple short runs while waiting. I usually have 3 decent weeks and one not so decent week with home time.
-
You really take a full week off every month? I always have at least 4 dys worth of running on my off weeks.
-
The way I do it is like this: come off home time, pick up student.
Run him first 2 weeks for a normal pay check usually 900-1100 range. 3rd week run team OR super solo that check is usually aroun 1200-1500. Drop him off for upgrade and do whatever to get home for home time. The upgrade bonus will come on the home time week so youre still looking at 900-1000 even if only running 4 days. Some weeks are better my best week was 1925 but got an upgrade bonus on a team week. and of course there is the occasional bad week like when you need a PM or god forbid a breakdown then your looking at the 500ish range. but I keep good care of my truck so those times are rare. If you are a real go getter and have a good dispatcher backing you up Id say 80k is doable, and were going to find out for sure next year because thats what Im shooting for.
Dont forget to keep in touch with your old students and help them iin the rough spots as much as you can. That step bonus can add up quick. -

You have to have been driving at least a year. You have to have been driving for USX for 60 days (I think). You can't have any incidents for the past 6 months. There is a trainer class you have to attend.

Old thread, but with drivers willing to work for this low wage, I now see why freight rates are in the toilet. $60K should be what the average solo driver with a clean CDL and 1 year experience earns driving 2500 miles per week.
